Garage Art/Mancave

I have been cleaning up the garage since the Cutlass Resto is about finished. Dad's funeral flag has been upstairs for 30 years in a plastic bag. I decided to get it out for Memorial Day and hang up for wall art. I have also been collecting some repo signs. There was a thread a couple weeks back about hoods as wall art and I have a steel hood I have some ideas for and will hang it from the ceiling. Would love to see some of you guys ideas to display your cars!

That's a garage?! Looks awesome Sampson and the perfect setting for your vert. Is that crown molding over your garage door? Oops, wait, looks like the door is to the left.

Thanks for the comments guys but here is a pic of the same car same space about 3 months ago. I am feeling pretty good about the change. I put about 200 miles on the car today cruising. Sure beats the same amount of time working on the car.

Pic of me and the Mrs cruising today! Having some fun.

+1. Great idea Sampson.
I will have to do something like that with my grandfathers
flag. It has been in my closet for more years than
I can remember. Nice pic of you and the Mrs. too.

Sooooo I am thinking of installing a rubber rollout such as BLT offers or G-Floor. or painting the floor with epoxy. Any of you have some experiences to share!

I'm planning on painting the floor. Much cheaper than adding large snap in tiles that get damaged when you use jack stands. If the floor gets too scratched etc. I can resort to the tiles then. JMO.

Nice garage. Whats the story on the wooden detail you have in front of the car in the first pic. Is that new construction...er something repurposed/old fixture from something else?

I have an epoxy paint on our small attached garage. Its held up well at five yrs or so. Its important to etch the portions that have had contact with latex (tires) and any oil or coolant leaks.

I got all the stuff from a mom and pop paint store in my town but don't remember any of the brands. The details to mix were like one gallon to one half pint of epoxy additive. Mix and wait 45 minutes before applying.

Thanks Mac! That Crown Molding actually belongs to a back bar that was part the soda fountain that came out of my fathers drug store. This thing dates back to around 1900. I restored it a couple years ago and had it set up in the garage but took tHe front bar down when I started restoring the Cutlass. Here is a pic of the bar set up for my daughters wedding After Party.

I have a friend with decking and no damage yet.

If you epoxy, don't use a cheap kit.

If you paint with epoxy it would help if you acid etch the floor prior to epoxy. It's pretty simple your local paint store should have the acid. You spread it evenly, neutralize it with water, wait 48 hours before applying the epoxy. Couple of fans would help drying, make sure the floor is dry 100%. Apply 2 coats 24 hours between them. Don't use water based epoxy no matter what the sales guy says. Follow these steps and it will last for a long time and it will be chemical and oil resistant.
I used to run commercial painting outfit so I know a little.

It's all in the prep. (and using the right materials)

What decking is he using and does he work on the car much (jack stands, etc.)? Some decking may be better than others. Best to know as much as possible before spending.

I agree with others about Epoxy. Don't cheap out, prep well, and skip the paint chips that come in some kits. They look nice but hold dirt. They do help with traction when the floor gets wet, but a pain to keep clean.

I did my 24-39 with epoxycoat. Really high solids level. I acid etched too. Couldnt be happier.

I did the color flake. It's slippery with the flake, can't imagine without it.

I clean the floor with dove, nylon brush and garden hose.

One of my concerns with the epoxy is the garage floor gets very damp during high humidity weather. It doesn't happen very often. I wonder if ther will be adhesion problems related to the moisture?

There will definitely be problems if there's moisture when you apply it. Tape a clear piece of plastic to the floor and leave it for a few days...if there's condensation on the plastic then you don't want to be putting a coating down.
