Found protecto plate! B07 67 cutlass police apprehender 4 door sedan! How to decode?

Found protecto plate! B07 67 cutlass police apprehender 4 door sedan! How to decode?

i can't believe it!!! i'm sure the Oldsmobile Gods were smiling down at me... burried under a bunch of old carpet, papers, misc clutter & trash on the floor of the car i found the factory GM issued protecto plate! is there a POP decoder somewhere... how can i decode this thing? i'm happy as hell! still can't believe it! will post a pic later... for now it reads...

935-CC 336697M173391 (vin of car)
V-204927G (ser# on cylinder head) BS 7 K
OG-3103 11140

any ideas?

Marty, I believe the OG-3103 11140 should match the number on the transmission tag. So far you have a numbers matching engine according to the Protecto- Plate.

Joe, Marty, the 11140 is a code series that will tell you a *lot* about the options on the car. Only the OG-3103 is the trans code.
A complete breakdown of the POP is in the first section of the Assembly Manual you'll find on Wild About Cars:

Marty, it will help you a lot if you spend time going through that Assembly Manual, the Chassis Service Manual, the SPECS booklet and other resources on Wild About Cars. You'll get answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet.

thanks to everyone for all the help & info on the car. i recently registered on wildaboutcars. i am eager to sign back on & decipher this code later on this eve. i will be bringing her home tomorrow. here are the pics of the POP. i found it kind of odd that the "original" black stamping on the paper shows no owners name or address... but there are 2 plates one has the car info vin etc on it & the other was originally a blank plate. it appears the original owners name was engraved on some "GM issued tape" & then attached to the blank plate.

No doubt and the 66-7 400 442 engine is rare enough but in a more door is uber rare

Just because it has a 400 4bbl engine in it, doesn't make it a 442!!

It's a Cutlass 4-dr sedan POLICE car, far "RARER" & a cool find!!

engine
V (prefix) & G (suffix) = 400 4bbl 10.5:1 compression
rear axle
B = BUICK
S7 = 3.23 anti-spin axle w/front disc brakes
K = October 1966

I'm not sure what everyone's fascination is with making the car something it is not? ..... but I guess that explains all the "clones".

This is what I got from the current owner... The car belonged to an older woman named Josephine. Most of the paper work that i have found on the car is in her name... prior registration papers, pink slip dated 1969 etc. When Josephine passed about 15 years ago the car was given to a close family friend hers... Another lady. The gentleman that I bought the car from is that lady's husband. The car has been in their possession parked inside a garage since the mid 1990's. Billy Smith jr was Josephine's husband. The address on page st was their address. They haven't lived there in sometime at least 20 years or so. That was before the days of google maps etc & that's why you wouldn't see the car out front. The pop plate is the only item I've found with Billy Smith's name on it. I also found previous CA registration cards along with the pop plate today dated 74 75 & 1982. All in Josephine's name. As far a dealer goes... There is a name plate on the the lower left side of the trunk lid that says "Ahrens Madison". I assume an Olds dealership in Madison Wisconsin. That's about all I know.

It sounds like you should be able to get the whole story from family-friends-relatives as it sounds like one family/friend ownership since new.

I went thru the dealer code thread & found one reference to AHRENS but as dealer 30-104, (014 VS. 104 typo?).

It would appear, from the limited info posted, that Billy Joe purchased the car in WI 9/67 & had a permanent address in CA. Was he military? Looks like the car wasn't registered in CA until 5/69.

Did Josephine & Billy Joe have kids? Sleeper family sedan?

The current Page St. view & OLDS comment was a little.

N082727S = engine unit number 425 4bbl 10.5:1
358695M186735 = VIN# Lansing built '65 Delta 88 Celebrity Sedan
S = synchromesh transmission (3-spd manual)
LA-1234Z = Lansing body number & "Z" = January build
CC - body paint "provincial white"
324 = fawn bench seat interior
023100 - accessory build codes (I'm not familiar with these, even for the '67s)

I'd cut & paste this into a new thread, somebody should be able to fill in the blanks.

Marty, this is why you need to study the Assembly Manual yourself. Because it says more about the 5 digit code than what has been stated here. It will tell you that, for instance, that the 2nd "1" also means that you *don't* have power brakes. So it is important to study the sources of the information and not just what someone tells you.
And of particular interest here, is that the 2nd code "1" contradicts the rear end B S7 code. The B S7 code indicates front disc brakes. The 2nd digit in the 5-digit code should be a "4" or a "5" with front disc brakes. Even though these apparent discrepancies are rare, they do exist. And I do say "apparent", because there may have be later revisions to the information that we do not have, so it that case it would not be a contradiction even.
Bottom line is to go over the available information if you really want to learn about it.

B01 "City Cruiser" VS. B07 "Highway Patrol"

after reading thru the "1967 OLDS FLEET FACTS" & "1967 OLDSMOBILE Salesman's Prices Equipment Colors and Trims Specifications" booklets it appears:

The rear sway bar was part of the B07 "Highway Patrol" package & not part of the "City Cruiser" package. Also, I see no indication of a rear sway bar stand alone OPTION.

..... "What we have here" is one RARE '67 Highway Patrol Cutlass Holiday Sedan with 400 4bbl, Turbo 400, & power disc brakes.

Yeah, Kurt... I looked it up last night after I posted the info to the thread.. Good info there on WAC. I couldn't find any info on the 023100 accessory build codes. Any idea what the 023100 means ?

I don't know where you found the info at, but much appreciated. It's close, the car has no console, (column shift) & never had A/C. Everything else listed is correct.

I'm looking at the wild about cars web site now trying to figure this stuff out. Maybe I'm a little slow when it comes to the tech stuff.

Basically you have 5 digits and each digit represents a position. Each position = option code #'s for RPO codes which = accessories. What I have says '65 & '66 years are same but I am thinking not completely true as yours is a '65. But should be close as you stated. Now what you posted has 6 digits so maybe I am off by deleting the last 0 and not the first 0 Anywho I am glad to be of some assistance and you are quite welcome.

Yes. Sorry, I didn't realize it was that cryptic for the B-bodies. On the POP page, look at the right side under "Lansing Plant". Under "Column Number" are six listings. Those six are (in order) your six digits 023100. You then need to go to the "IBM Accessory Codes" page (about the 15th page in the same section.) For each of the "Column Numbers", look it up and find (under that number) the corresponding number in your code. A "0" means you don't have anything listed in that IBM column (that tells you what you don't have!). For instance your third digit is a "3". The column number for the 3rd digit is "42". Looking up column 42 on the "IBM Accessory Codes" page shows that a "3" means you have a "tilt type mirror" and a C16 W/W wiper.

As you and I both know all literature out there is not 100% accurate, I admitted my mistake(s) and corrected it. And if it wasn't for the said wrong literature I would be lost when I finally viewed the PIM for '65 as I feel what he is going through. There is a method to my madness and there is your method. I helped eventually two people so far and by the time others who are interested in learning as we all have to start somewhere can take the cheat sheet and the PIM and realize what needs to be done to decode these on their own. Until then, Shirley you don't expect to keep students' attention with the "go find what you seek" attitude without explaining how. Kinda like giving an Algebra student a Calculus equation and saying you have 30 mins to solve it.
