I finally started my reconditioned 350. It ran like crap on start up, was idling at 2000-3000 RPM
I spent a couple hours a day for a week trying to figure out what was going on. Doh!!!!
see if you can find the problem.
Did you check your choke hi idle adjustment on the passenger side of the carb?
Yes, waiting on my How to rebuild & Modify Quadrajet Carburetors but once i found and fixed the leak it is running Good now
still need to dial it in though but it is night and day in how it is running
The Problem was Definitely a Vacuum Leak "A HUGE VACUUM LEAK"
I cant figure out how to attache a video or I would have a before and after so you could see and hear it.
Yes , Yes I did The Carb has been sitting on the Manifold for about 4 years waiting for me to get to the point of installing it .
It sure looked good though

There is nothing wrong with showing all of us..... (WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?) It makes us all better mechanics demonstrating that any of us can make a mistake when our minds are two steps ahead of what we are doing at the present........Like installing a carb. Proof that its the little things that make big problems down the road.
YEP GUILTY AS HELL
I pointed out the accelerator linkage mounting plate in another thread. Sorry I missed it in this one, I thought it was the loose manifold bolt.
Your not the first https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-350-a-139360/
Yep Glasses,an assembly Manual, Service Manual and a lot of time searching on CO to find out what was going on
I even tightened the Carb Bolts and only saw it when I was playing with the throttle and it was backfiring and spitting fuel
I stepped back and while looking at the carb i said to myself " wait the Carb Gasket doesn't have a relief for the throttle bracket"
I pulled the Carb off and put the Bracket on over the Carb.
I started it back up and it ran almost perfect.
I cant tell you how many times I pulled the Distributor and reset TDC, adjusted it a Tooth forward and then back thinking it was a timing issue.
A real learning experience.
This is the first engine I have completely taken apart and put back together with all new Bearings and gaskets and it actual runs, the only thing I sent out for work were the Heads. The Carb was rebuilt when I purchased it . Car was originally a 2bbl.
