I'm running a edelbrock performer series on a near stock 350 olds (on car when i bought it) only mod is a hei ingnation (on car when I bought it as well) the thing runs grate at idle but under power seems to randomly guzzle gas or barely sip it what's up ?I changed the jets for high altitude. live in Colorado Springs but only got a 3mpg increase (was getting 7 when I bought the car now gets 10) I should be getting between 12 to 15 right ?and I can't seem to back the idle down (feels and sounds to high to me ) no mater what I do. Please need help ?before something in there brakes that I can't afford to fix right now! Only had the car 3 months .

What rpm is your car idling at? Is the choke stuck? Is the vacuum advance on your distributor connected to manifold vacuum and or stuck? Could you possibly have a vacuum leak?

Na checked all that like 4 times the choke is electric it idles at 1500 cold and at 800 hot the carbs new a year old at most was running at 2500 cold and 1500 hot before I rejeted the carbs and re did the mix setting and idle setting

What specific model and series is this carb? EX: "1411 AVS" What intake are you running? Do you have an EGR valve? Year, make, model, and trans helps too.
Some basics first.
1. Did you check the fuel filter?
2. Did you verify fuel pump pressure?
3. Have you verified zero vacuum leaks?
4. What is the base timing set at?
5. What are your vacuum readings at idle?
Once we verify these basics we can get deeper into driveability issues and tuning.

Did some checking up found that the 1406 edelbrock carbs run like crap on a street car had the original 2 barrel lying around so I bought a 2 barrel to 4 barrel manifold adapter and put the original back on the guy I bought it from had switched out the manifold as well as the carb so I'll run it for a while like this and see how it runs and I checked every thing but the timeing haven't had the time to work on the car lot of personal stuff going on right now
