Finally 54 Olds is mine
Finally 54 Olds is mine
Yesterday I finally became the owner of this 54 Olds Super 88 convertible. My late friend left this car to me but I had to wait until the 2nd anniversary of his passing. He bought the car in April 2002 after I found it on ebay. He had one new and had looked for one for 20-25 years. I oversaw the restoration and which wound up taking several years. I put the car in his garage in 2008 and he never even rode in it. Last year when we were trying to start it we had an engine fire (please don't even ask). I picked it up from the paint & body shop last Saturday and brought it home. I have named her Lessie which was my grandmother. I have lots of small things to do but she is going to get driven on a regular basis. I have attached one picture of the car when I got home Saturday and one of what it looked like when it got here. I am very fortunate to have this car and hope to see several of you in the coming months.

Actually he was a pretty cantankerous old codger. My wife used to ask me why he was my friend. If we had not shared a love for old cars, we probably would have never become friends. I used to be his banker back in the late 80's. I have one car left out of his collection to sell and it is a nice little 49 Ford club coupe that I actually loaned him the money to buy. I am the executor of the estate and when I went through the 49 Ford file, there was the note with my initials on it from 1988. I oversaw the restoration of this car and leaving it to me was part of the payback.
Coming from you Tedd, I really do consider this a big compliment. For some reason I think the blue looks better on the 54 and the red looks better on your 55. This car is well documented back to the original owner who I have a picture of. I also have the original invoice. I am going to really enjoy this car and am very fortunate to own it.

Jay:
I hope we can hookup when you come back through with your car in the trailer. If I remember it will be in September. To have these two cars (with blue wheels) side by side would be a great photo op. Hopefully we can make that work.

Dad decided it was time to head south already. He'll be leaving MN in the next couple days. Send me a PM with your phone number and I'll pass it on to him. He'll be taking his sweet time traveling and stopping to visit family & friends along the way.
That is a deal. I will take some short trips around Rowlett this weekend to start doing a shakedown since the car has not been on the road for 5 years. It seems to be running decent but has lots of little bugs to get out. I am not quite ready for a road trip yet but will be soon. Send me a PM with your address and cell. The time has finally arrived.
I promise this is the last post I will make on this thread because I do not want to sound like a braggart. I did go to the Dallas County Tax Office today and successfully register the car. I was able to register my 1954 Texas plates. I know there was some discussion some time back that Texas was going to discontinue this. That is not the case Here they are.
