Fan too big?

I would like to replace the stock 4 blade fan on my 68 Cutlass (with a 455) with a 7 blade clutch fan. It seems to fit in the shroud ok but rubs on the bottom of the shroud. Is a 19" fan too big? I think it's the same fan that was on the 455 originally but was in a big car. Motor mounts are only a couple years old. Pretty sure I didn't move the frame mounts when I took out the 350 and put in the 455.

IIRC, the '68 shroud is a bit smaller than following years. 19" sounds big. I think the original fan was 18"-ish.

I just measured my original shroud & its ~19.5" side-side. Not much room for error with a 19" fan.

Also, if your motor mounts are old, the engine may be sitting a little lower.

I have a 7 blade 17in fan listed in parts for sale, Could you use that instead of trying to move the shroud??
Let me know if I can help.

Thanks but just thought I would try it since I had it laying around. Just curious why it wasn't centered in the shroud.

Your motor mounts might be new, but are they the correct mounts matched to the frame mounts on the car? 1968 in particular is a problem child, as the parts houses have the wrong info in their catalogs.

Search for a thread on motor mounts. This has been beaten to death. Once you know you do or don't have the right mounts you can decide on a course of action.
