Exhaust leak

I have an exhaust leak on my 65 Cutlass, is there a way to detect the location? I’ve been under the car while it’s running but can’t seem to pinpoint the leak. Is there a common area where they can develop a leak? I’m thinking pouring transmission fluid down the carb will produce smoke to make it easier to detect, has anyone tried this?

I learned this from an old muffler tech. He used his torch with just lit acetylene and flashed it around anywhere around a potential leak with the engine running, and the leak would blow the flame back. I tried this at home with a regular propane lighter and got the same results. This is a good way to detect leaks.

With engine off, place hose from shop-vac (in blow mode) into tailpipe while car elevated; crawl under and locate where the air is coming out. In case of dual exhausts you may have to block the other tailpipe with a rag.

Maybe all 3 of those ideas will work, but wanna find it really easily? Have car running at idle, stick a piece of 5/16" vacuum hose in your ear -NOT TOO FAR!! Hose about 4 ft long. Now run other end of hose around exhaust- you will hear where leak is- I know, too simple.. Works great...

With all of those ideas suggested, I’m sure I’ll be able to detect the leak. Thanks for all your tips guys!
