Engine run stand wiring

Wiring up a run stand from scratch. Question i have is what do i run to the coil? for ignition, Straight 12 volts or does it need to run through ballast resister. On line diagrams show both ways. Working with points distributor.

For the short time that you'll be running the engine on a stand, full 12V to the points is fine. The whole point of the ballast resistor is to drop the voltage to extend the life of the points. For the 20 minutes it takes to break in a cam, it won't matter.
If you're determined to run a resistor, then you need two separate wires from the ignition switch, one that provides full 12V in START and one with a resistor in RUN.
