Engine installed

The 394/700r4 is in the hole. I had some great help putting it in.

Probably the only Olds EFI 394 and overdrive 1962 Starfire Convertible on planet earth. Good luck on first start up, is it the Sniper 2?

No, Sniper 1. During the restoration of the car I bought parts as I had the money to do so and not when I needed them. I bought some things that I didn't need and I wish that I had waited on the Sniper 2, but it is what it is.
Just some words of advice to those just starting a project.

Yeah, that sucks. Do a stand alone power box for the EFI, like what is included with the Sniper 2. I had an under hood fire using the 55 year old wiring with EFI.

Very nice Dennis. I struggled to get the 394 into my '64 Dynamic, mating the flexplate and transmission spline, and then lining up the front motor mount, it's very difficult to do by yourself. You're lucky to have a friend to lend a hand.

Love it!~

There are two things that I would recommend for anyone using a Sniper. They didn't put much (if any protection) for the ECU input side, so these tips may save you an ECU/new unit:
1. protect the input power line from the pulse generated from collapsing relay fields (fuel pump, and any device not shielded) upon shutdown with a flyback diode. Use this across the EFI's input power harness (diode's banded side to +12V wire, other side to the ground wire):
Amazon Amazon
2. protect the points input from noise using this across the battery:

With all this good info about the Sniper 1 I'm beginning to think that I might be better off just getting a Sniper 2 and forget all the headaches of the Sniper 1.

Let me present another perspective....I've install literally dozens of these units on older cars...yes the SNIPER 1 and they have worked flawlessly. In addition, I have two of them installed on my 67 Chevelle (650 HP) and my 71 Olds 442 (570 HP). I've done the installation and tuning myself and they work amazing. I have installed the SNIPER 2s as well but have not seen any noticeable performance enhancements. Sure, there are enhancements to the grounding and signal interference with the SNIPER 2. If you install the SNIPER 1 correctly and work to eliminate any RFI or EMI....they work great. I would not automatically skip the SNIPER 1 for the 2 unless I was purposefully buying a new one today. Just something to think about.....

You can read all about my SNIPER installs on my recent resto in the link in my signature block. I tried out the Quadra Jet style and then went back to the traditional Holley style currently to match my Chevelle.
