🤩😍

I can't see too good for the engine stand. Is that a flex damper or a flywheel hiding up in the bellhousing?

Its a stock slim-jim flywheel with no damper

Nicely detailed, are you looking for a car to put it in?

Beautiful job on the resto. I am putting my 394 back together (64 Dynamic 88 Fiesta Wagon). The shop manual says to put a sealer on the head gaskets. Is that correct? Do you have any advice on the prep before I put them on ?

The shop manual was written over 60 years ago.
Head gasket technology was not the same as today.
Most modern gasket makers do not recommend any sealer on their gaskets.
The "sealer" is already incorporated on the surface of the gasket.
Make sure the heads and block surfaces are absolutely clean and flat.

Thanks Charlie. That was my assumption as the gaskets are steel and not composite. I now understand why you say "I choose to restore an Oldsmobile Not because it's easy But because it is hard" I have 15 classic cars and have never hit so many stumbling blocks, mostly parts availability, having to do mod's with the parts I have, broken bolts etc. first thing I did was buy the factory manual but it is still not very detailed. My skill level is probably 7 of 10, so I appreciate the help. Very excited to get the 394 back together and stab it back between the fender wells.

I emailed Best Gasket with the same question Found this interesting:Hello Vince

Yes we suggest using a copper coat spray on both sides of the gasket.

K&W or Permatex.

I looked at the Best Gasket set.
The head gaskets appear un-coated.
I can see why they would recommend copper coat sealer.

I am more familiar with Fel-Pro gaskets.
They are coated with a blue substance which acts as a sealer.
Thus, they are applied dry.
