Emergency brake lever assembly differences?

I just noticed last night in the assembly manual that there are 2 differant levers available. it only shows the picture for one of them and the other is an option but no picture. I dug through my parts and found two differant ones. Anyone know why the 2 different ones? My Rallye and both 442s have the one like the bottom one in the picture. the 1970 assemble manual show the top one on page 114 of section 5.

Question Don't really know

I don't know the answer, but manufacturers have, at times, used multiple subcontractors for a variety of reasons, (such as to assure dependability of supply). Perhaps a more knowledgable person can provide the exact reason.

I don't have an absolute answer. However a couple of years ago I cleaned all the e-brake assemblys I had in my inventory (about 15 at that time) and noticed the two kinds. Some of them had ink dates stamped on them. It looks to me that they used both kinds over a long time with no ryme or reason.~BOB

My 70 has the top one.

Another note: The NOS parking brake pads and plastic handles are different from the originals.

Where was your car built? That might be a key to figuring out how the cars were equipped with either type. My 72 is a Lansing car.
