emergency brake

i have a 65 olds dynamic 88 convertable. i just redid all the brakes from the master cylinder all the way down. the emergency brake cable that runs down the center of the car that connects the two rear emergency brakes to the brake handle is missing. can a person make his own by welding a couple nuts to a cable or does anyone have any ideas. i found a place in west virginia that has some but they want $65.00 for it. i think that is pretty pricey for a 5 foot cable. any suggestions thanks
