Dumps after the muffler??
What are the pros and cons of dumping your exhaust after the muffler? I already smell plenty of exhaust fumes with duals out the back, so i am contemplating swapping out my mufflers for something a little more aggressive. it would be alot cheaper for me to just cut the pipes just before my existing mufflers, remove from the muffler back, and just throw on two new mufflers and dump it right after the outlet? Does the exhaust get much louder? Any flow difference? What would u guys say? This winter I want to get a nice X-pipe and tail pipes installed, but I was thinking for the summer I could have some fun, throw something cheap and loud on there and then put the good stuff on this winter. The exhaust sounds decent now, but still what I would call mello, and the pipes are showing signs of age which is what I want to swap it out soon.

Get a hacksaw and cut those tail pipes off STAT!
If you are going to put exhaust on the car this winter then just cut the tail pipes off now and run your current mufflers. Any muffler that is cut off will be LOUD and OBNOXIOUS!
Then, in the winter you can find a good exhaust shop and have them install new pipes and mufflers. If you want you can always install cutoffs later.

Well it's not really spending money twice considering if I bought 2 new mufflers now, then used those in conduction with the new Xpipe and tail pipes, it would just be an investment towards the future upgrade. Or if I just stick with the current mufflers and cut the tail pipes, it would cost zero dollars.

I ran turndowns in front of the axle on a car years ago. Two problems. First, there was a tremendous resonance in the axle cavity (and I used Walker Turbos, not (no)Flowmasters). Second, the heat and soot caused the rubber fuel hoses from the tank to deteriorate over time. I'd run full tail pipes.

Why not get the best of both worlds? Install a pair of cutouts somewhere up front before the mufflers. There are some electrics that you can open and close via switch from the comfort of your front seat. Or, you could install a pair of manual ones cheaply thru your local muffler shop.

i think there is confusion as what i want to do here.....i like having a full exhaust, i like having nice tips coming out under the bumper, i do not want PERMANENT dumps. this car gets winterized in september and doesn't move (much) until march/april. i am only considering doing this for the remainder of the summer, which is about 2 months. in addition, i only use this car MAYBE once a week, it's a weekend cruiser, not a daily driver. so really, the rear end would not be subject to an excessive amount of exhaust dust/soot with the minimal use. as i mentioned, i would not be leaving it like this, i will be doing a full exhaust with an Xpipe & tail pipes FOR SURE this winter. the negative points i see brought up WOULD be a problem if i intended on leaving it that way for a while. so from what i see here, a 2 month span of no tail pipes wouldn't be too bad. louder exhaust, no cost to me, bystanders wondering who is causing the earth quake as i drive by.....sounds good to me. like i said, i smell a whole ton of exhaust fumes as it is, i can't see that getting much worse. i think i've concluded that for a short time, really not many cons, but DEFINATELY a louder exhaust, which is what i am looking for temporarily.

I tried dumping the exhaust just in front of the rear axle on one of my cars. Never again will I do that.
To many exhaust smells throughout different times of driving and a really annoying hum-vibrate at idle.
All the way to the back bumper for me please.

I think you answered your own question here - go for it!!!
