Smile Drove My Car to Work

As it being a special occasion today (B/D)I drove my Cutlass to work today and it was a nice treat , it's not too far and I had lots of my work colleagues gave me the thumbs up and it looked nice in the sunshine ! I was a bit concerned as I we
have a huge parking lot and there's lots of cars going in and out but fortunately
it was unscathed when I came out to go home. Apparently just before I came out there was a young fella taking pictures of the car from all angles and I guess from what I was told he was pretty stoked with the car ! Probably will show up on his Facebook page ! Lol .. All in all a good day , maybe this will be a new tradition for me .

Nice ive been taking mine to work (60 mile RT) once or twice a week since I finished up the t chain replacement earlier this year. The more I drive it the more I love it.

Were you the first one to work or last one to leave looks like your the only car in the lot, when i go in I can usually find a good parking spot away from the daily driver riff raff...when I leave theres only a few cars left so thats worked out pretty good

I've been doing this too. A couple of things have brought this on. First my best friend passed away this past July. 54 years old and fought cancer for the last four. He had a black 71' 442 that was just wicked. He didn't drive it too much and he said he really regretted that. Second my job was eliminated about 3 weeks ago so until I find something else I have been pitching at my friends restoration shop in Windsor (JH Restorations). I have driven the Old's to work every day it has not been raining and it has been a blast!

I have a couple of good prospects to get back into the suit and tie job so this may be coming to an end soon. So I will enjoy it while I can! The weather has been great too.

This parking lot doesn't see a lot of vehicles during the week ,and i was the last to leave so I decided to take a quick pic .

That's sad to hear about your friend ,when i turned 50 a couple years ago I made the decision to get another Cutlass ,I'd always wished that'd I'd try to keep my first Cutlass (70 S model)but I was young and not enough money at the time to make it right as the body was falling apart quicker than i could fix it.
Good luck with the job prospects ,maybe you'll land a good one!

Glad you took it out and enjoyed it. I don't do that with my Cutlass that much, but every nice day, I am using my 85 Riv Convertible for work.

Occasionally I get the Buick or Olds out of the garage to take my wife shopping or whatever.
The shopping always seems less of a chore when we do this.
Quite often we get approached by someone who has spent time in the USA who will tell us they had a car just like it. Mind you, it often turns out they had another GM make, sometimes even a Ford or Mopar offering. I guess not everyone is a car guy, but if it brings a little pleasure to their day everyone's a winner.

Roger.

I have decided not to over do it on the paint job on my1969 Cutlass in order to reduce the stress of using it regularly. And I drive a 75 Supreme daily. I've been doing so since I sold the Mercedes last year. But I must also include the fact that the 70 442 does not get driven much over the concerns shared by 61reoldsman. And the 69 is never left out on the street for fear of it getting stolen.

Where I work, I share a lab with a guy with a 2013 Boss 302, and another guy with a 2008 Daytona charger. They don't bring they on days it might rain, or mondays, or days when the price of gas might go up .... They show up in their little ***** can econoboxes. I just don't get it. Paying all that money for a car they don't let themselves enjoy. That's like having a trophy wife that you're always worried might be cheating on you ... bugger it. I've got an old banger that I relish driving no matter what scratches or dings it might collect. Might say the same of the missus too but don't tell her I said that.

Good for you! I drive my burgundy 98 to work every now and again when the weather's nice. Before I even considered it, I made a point of scoping out just the right spot to park it in and found one all the way in a corner of the garage where few people park. You can tell the ones that do park there take better care of their cars because it's the longest walk to the office. I'll probably drive it down next week come to think of it.

I've yet to drive the black 98 to work but really want to one of these days. I have a few more little things to do on it before I bring it down to show my work friends. They've seen pictures and heard the stories but most have never seen it in person lol.

Just be careful because there could be a clause in your insurance policy prohibiting you from driving the car to work. You don't ever want to get yourself stuck in the unfortunate case of an accident, etc.

Mine's a driver and I try to drive it to work at least once a week, twice already this week since the weather is nice. Have a parking garage at the office and find a spot next to a wall or something to keep it relatively protected. Now a few other old car owners do the same, some nice Fridays start to look like a mini cruise in.

I bought regular, full coverage insurance, and registered all my cars as drivers (no vintage/antique plates), so I have no issues with driving them whenever I like. I am also lucking in that I am in the military and I park on a base with limited access. I also park in an empty portion of the parking lot. I also have a so/so paint job on both the 75 and 69, so a little scratch doesn't bother me. The only thing I don't like is driving them in the rain. But since I don't have a beater or a new car, I have no choice but to drive one of the Cutlasses. I kind of intended it to be that way when I sold the Mercedes. I can't cheat on my plan to drive a cool car as my daily driver. And it wouldn't really be a daily driver if I didn't drive it daily, rain or shine.

I would drive mine all year round if we didn't get such harsh weather up here and mounds of salt on the roads ! That kind of weather and conditions basically trashed my first Cutlass
when I was 19 !

Drive 'em! I drove my '78 (below) today to work... heading out immediately after work to the track for some test and tune fun.... It is about an 80 mile round trip plus a few passes...

I try to get mine out as much as I can in good weather. When I use it I am careful where I park it but I won't hesitate to park it at a mall or a supermarket. My daily driver is worth more anyway.

Agreed I'll drive it to the Parts Store or Dairy Queen but I do try and watch where I park it as I'm a bit paranoid that someone will back into it or scratch it although the paint isn't the best I'd like to at least get a few more years out of the paint before it has to be repainted .My son feels pretty cool when his Dad picks him up at High School with the Olds , lots of rubberneckers ! Lol

I have only been driving mine in and out of the garage this year. I don't want to take it anywhere until the interior is finished. Hopefully, this year coming up, I'll buy my interior pieces instead of more music gear.

I do plan to take it to work, but it won't be very often since I have a half hour drive in each direction.

Drove my burgundy Ninety Eight to work Monday and Tuesday of this week and it was great. The car is running strong and it was such a pleasure to use it for daily use, even for a short time. I have an hour commute each way so after a full day in the office, it's very rewarding to climb behind the wheel of such a comfy ride. We took it on a nice hour long ride on Sunday as well which was also great so it was 3 days in a row of Oldsmobile.

Funniest thing about it was somebody in my office walked past me in the parking lot and said the car looked like new. If they think that car looks like new, I wonder how they would describe my show car!
