does brand matter in power steering fluid?

Just had my steering gear and pump rebuilt by Chip at Powersteering.com

Upgraded from 16:13:1 variable ratio to 12.7:1 constant ratio - can't wait to drive it!

Instructions say to refill the system with dexron 3 power steering fluid - does brand matter? Advanced Auto store brand, or should I shop around for better?

and...will 2 quarts be enough? (1970 cutlass supreme)

Thanks!

I don't think it will matter at all. Two quarts should be plenty so if you want to buy a name brand, the price for two quarts will not be a big deal. Your could ask Chip if you want an expert opinion because he is an expert for sure.

Nope brand doesn't matter Dexron III ATF or higher fluid is all the same. It all meets the specifications to be categorized as that. Only difference is if you went synthetic but still meets the specs.

Thanks for the replies

Talked to Chip @ powersteering.com - he said don't use synthetics in old gear boxes - FYI
