DIY OAI Air filter housing.......

After coming across Boldsmobiles post and seeing what a great job he did on his homemade OAI housing.

i finally got around to making a housing for my 14 inch airfilter ,having that velocity stack under the hood was driving me crazy.i so prefer stock "appearing" to the untrained eye.

it was pretty simple, went to homedepo purchased a black flo tech sump basin 23.99 with a 15 1/2 inch inside bottom, and 10 ft of 1 1/4 rubber self stick weather stripping.6.99

first using a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade,i cut a 11 inch circle out of the bottom, and cut the basin to 4 1/4 inches.then screwed with 3/16 self tapping zippies the bottom base from the air filter to the basin, and sprayed it with lowgloss high heat paint

then stuck the weather stripping around the top of the new housing inside and out leaving 3/4 exposed over the top of the housing mating the two to each others self stick..now im just waiting for a keep your GM car all GM decal.

let me know what you guys think.

it was pretty straight foward , measure and cut. i will take it off and take some pictures of the inside and bottom, this will give you a better idea of how it was made.

LOOKS NICE...but, you need to put on a "keep your GM car all GM" decal and then put a Home Depot sticker over that.

Thanks for the info jamesbo,
i knew about the drain holes ,decided not to only because the car is not a dailey driver and most likely 99.9 % will not be driven in the rain.

charlloots,
Do you have a flowtec Part # for the pump basin you used? Can't find them on line or here in AZ.

Have you gotten a chance to drive it and get any impressions of the mod? Any better performance?

Very cool. Did you use the air cleaner base from your stock Oldsmobile air cleaner, or did you use an air cleaner base from an aftermarket air cleaner? I suppose either would work equally well. Defenitely ingenious.
