Disgusted at my City

Vancouver riots after losing to Boston, no class in these so called fans. Beating each other up and vandalizing the city. Also heard that a Boston fan was killed by a Canucks "band wagoner" fan.

Don't take it too personally. What happens in cities happens.

Yeah, I thought you Canajuns were peaceful.

This is the reaction I would have expected in Boston if they had lost .

I'm from Montreal, generally there's a Riot when the Habs win or Lose, it got so bad one year that they actually thought about just canning the whole season for the team (that was two years ago i think).

"Collective unconcious" is a term Jung used to describe how a mob/crowd can behave differently than indivual thinking people.

IMHO it's interesting what crazy stuff happens when normal people get caught up in the moment.

The City of Dallas is having a parade downtown today at 10 AM, about a 1.8 mile route, to celebrate the Mavs NBA Championship. Hope the fans that brave the 90's heat and humidity have fun, and are civilized. We had our share of bad press in '93 (I think) when fans (???) fought each other/&/the police downtown when the Cowboys won the NFL. They expect 250,000 extra people downtown!!! I'll catch it on the TV in the A/C house, a little later (taped) with a cool one. Am a fan, but not a fool.

Yeah most of them were not even fans that just wanted to cause problems. Then they got the other people many that were drunk into it. I was there when this all happened and one guy hit my uncle in the face with a broken beer bottle almost took his eye out.

I remember that. They asked a few guys who were arrested who won the game and they didn't know. Rubber bullets should be handed out and used.

I think they were a bit gun-shy after all the controversy surrounding the G-8 goings-on.

THIS was the time to be jerks and bust heads, and from what I heard on the news, they hung back.

What happend in BC kind of makes it hard to point a finger at what goes on elsewhere in the world. I can see demonstrating (not burning and looting) for a cause - I have done it. But those guys are just a bunch of thugs who have played too many video games.

These thugs were there to intice anarchy, they wore masks and hoodies to hide their cowardly faces from the cameras on the street corners. The good news is the other people (true fans ) used cell phone cameras and are sending the pictures to the police....arrests are forthcoming, these people (term used very loosely) will be caught and held acountable!

The older ones yes, the younger ones, not so much. With the present way of parenting,(both parents working...kids left to their own devices) no wonder their moral compasses are wanting. A sad display of hooliganism that makes me wonder what the future holds for the shrinking population of "peaceful Cunucks."

Big D did OK yesterday with the parade for the Mavs! Crowd of 200,000 with temps in the 90's (early), and only 3 arrests! Police Chief and Mayor congratulated the people, as well as Dirk and Jason doing so.

No one was killed as stated above. A drunk guy fell thru the hiway guard rail down 70 feet to the ground, not in good shape. There was a group of idiots called the Black Block ,anarchist. They caused most of the damage. Had fire bomb and they wanted just to cause trouble. Mix in a bunch of 17-25 year old drunk hockey fans and this is what happens. I thought they should have just started shooting the bastards. The only good thing was all the private citizen who came down in the morning to help clean up. We are the people who love our beatiful city. The people responsible will be held accountable. Lots of video. There is a web site dedicated just to post pictures of the jerks participating in the destruction. Many arrested already. It's going to hard to hide.
Mike

Let's not tell them about the execution until the 20 years are up.

The REAL people of Vancouver have spoken up. Cops all over town are getting high-5. One cop car parked down town was covered in thank you post it notes. The web is catching tons of people causing damage. Local paper is publishing 6 pages of pictures daily asking if you know this person. A special task force is formed. All arrested will recieve maximum punishment. One guy who lite a cop car on fire was ID via the web and arrested. An out of town top college athelete with (had) a full scholarship to University. The cops say they are going to take down the anachist with every thing they have. Payback time.

It is sad. We try to portray ourselves as being above this kind of thing to the rest of the world, but we have our problems too. I understand that a young Austalian couple of tourists who were caught in the middle of the fracas began to kiss and make love on the street - it halted the riots on that street. Dead stop. Apparantly even the anarchists respect age old emtotions.
I blame too many videos games - when I was young I was in the garage building engines. My chemistry teacher would always ask me why I was so tired in class - it was not because of drugs - I had been up till 12 rebuilding a clutch.
Lets revive technical schools for our kids.

I read that one looters parents called the cops when they saw their 17 year old kid stealing on TV. Tough love.

I went to Game 5 and they found out I was a Boston fan!!. I was not wearing any items that would suggest I was a Boston fan. My excitement for Boston was closely held.
I needed an escort to my rental. I was very worried.
