Hello from the Motor City!
Hello to all the loyal Oldsmobile fans and aficionados out there! I tackling my first full restoration and have run into a glitch. Here's the scenario; I am resurrecting a 1970 442 the had met sideways with a tree and severely damaged the drivers side lower cowl/firewall section
. I've found a rust free 72 four door for a donor firewall in Kentucky
.From what I can tell the body shells are identical from 70 through 72 and the four doors are just extended versions of the two door. Can someone verify that the body shells are the same from 70 through 72 both two and four door and that this transplant should work?Is the windshield and the angle of the pillars the same?
Hopefully one you knowledgeable gearheads will help me with the unknown!
Any input would be HIGHLY appreciated!!
Thanks, DWDAWG (Dave)

Perplexed
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and the FAST replies!! That's what I was thinking but doing a little more research it seems as the four door and the Vista's(wagons)share the same windshield which I believe are taller than the 2 door.
I guess as long as it all bolts up correctly and the pitch of the pillars are correct the shop that's doing the cutting and welding can shorten the pillars if necessary.I just want to make sure it all looks factory and not some chopped 442 wanna B!! This is a great board and I'm gonna need some Guru's priceless knowledge base on this one!!
Thanks Again!!

Joe or someone who knows for sure will pitch in soon. I agree the windshields are different so I would suspect the front pillars are different. But from the dash down you should be good. Can you salvage the pillar between the door and windshield on your 442? John
John,
I believe that the pillar can be salvaged as there was no real damage done to it but the shop doing the job wants to chop the pillars half way up and cut the floor across just behind the seat mounts and switch out the whole dash/cowl/floor pan area.I'm just wanting to make sure the donor part that I found will work without too many complications! Regardless the parts on it's way up from Kentucky and as soon as the work gets underway I will be posting updates!
