Wow, what a wonderful turn out! I think we had 40 at the dinner.

Neat part was the introduction around the room with given name and your handle.
The stories and the speeches with everyone's Oldsmobile history's were the highlights.

Dave Bunch was regaling us with his stories of Oldsmobile at the factory level. Excellent tales. Which I am lucky to hear it from the retired Oldsmobile/Fisher people in Lansing myself.

Thank you all for coming.

FYI I have been elected to be the host for next year in Tennessee. Anyone got a place to live at after I try to explain to the misses why I am using my vacation time for the fourth year in a row to do the nationals?

Regards,
Pat

Pat,
Thanks for setting this dinner up.
Everyone,
We had a great time last night. The Oldsmobile community is one of the best. Some great stories, history lesson, and new friends.

Too bad the management werent prepared to handle the size or our group. We enjoyed our dinner despite having to be seated on the other side of the dining room. Thanks to Patton for volunteering to give up his seat for us. Glad I got to put some faces with the "handles"
Look forward to doing it again next year.

C=compulsive

Now there were at least three cameras/phones in use during the gathering. So someone will post some pictures.

First - A HUGE THANKS to Pat and Paul for setting this up and MAKING IT HAPPEN!! Lessons were learned for next years "meet and greet"/ritual application of "Hello-My Name Is:" tags (I'll bring a good black magic marker next year!) event and this should be a evolving improvement deal each year. I apologize to Tweed for the lack of seating.....I think the folks at Champs didn't realize how serious us Olds Nuts get when it comes to putting faces with names, sharing some great food....all while trying to down a Speckled Cow beer!

Now...on to more serious matters.

Lance - I have no idea what Scott was trying to do taking that pic From the concerned look on Jason's, Dave Bunch's, Tom's and Devon's faces it must have been serious. It sort of appears that I was trying to recreate that old Cheech and Chong skit/recording of the teacher in the out-of-control and noisy classroom. "class.....Class.......CLASS!!!!!......." And yes, there were "adult beverages" present....maybe I was trying to calm down the whole crew as we waited on them to be served. The whole event (this dinner and the whole Nats) was a blur of sorts with so many great folks to finally meet and talk Oldsmobiles with. Eric Jensen mentioned that above or in another thread in this section.....trying to look at cars but at the end of the day it's THE PEOPLE that make this so fun and interesting.

You could turn this into a "insert caption here" thread and we'd eventually figure the picture out but I'm not sure I want to know!

Great times and even greater folks!!! Again, A HUGE THANKS to Pat and Paul.

I think Patton was preaching the Oldsmobile gospel to the congregation!

I also want to thank Patton for bringing the name tags and pretty much held the reigns for speeches and ideas.

Ross, your sons speech was fantastic! His speech was very articulate and smooth, better than most adults!

It was a great idea to have a C.O. dinner get together. I really enjoyed meeting fellow members and putting names and faces to their C.O. Handles. Thank you to all who organized, had a great time.

Gee whiz what can I say, but what a great crowd of the faith full in honoring the Oldsmobile marque and R. E. Olds himself. I was very, very touched by you all and especially that speech given by that young man. It was very moving as you all witnessed me coking up about that! We need to keep getting the "young" involved to keep this going folks. But you already knew that! Great turn out I thought on the "spur of the moment thing" given by Pat's suggestion. Thanks PP s (Pat and Patton...............)! LOL

I really enjoyed meeting everyone. I am already looking forward to our next "get together" next year in Kingsport, TN. Patton asked and I agreed to a "question and answer session" with the caveat that it does not turn in to an argument! I hope we can accommodate everyone next time so on one has to sit "away from all the action".

Rocket On!

Dave - Enjoyed getting to visit with you as well and YES....if you are up to it maybe we could find a restaurant, etc with a room where we can make this happen. Maybe you meant to type "argument" above......I won't argue....who the heck can argue with you anyway???....you're the guy THAT WAS THERE!! The rest of us will be sponges and enjoy and absorb some great tales and info.

However, we might have to delve into some of the deep dark secrets (mods, etc) you guys did to your race cars if you would be willing to lift the veil a bit. The mods like relocating one front spindle/A-Arm assembly to increase rollout in the lights, etc.

I will begin working up some talking points for a Q&A and we can touch base throughout the year to compare notes.

I'll start watching Charlie Rose more and work on my technique. I say everyone should get set for a more drawn out affair with drinks/dinner followed up by a talk and plenty of Q&A. They'll probably have to throw us out of the place!

ALSO--Someone asked earlier about 2017....I believe the Nats are scheduled to be in Albuquerque, NM that year.

Patton and Pat. LOL lol yes messed up that spelling! See changes made in previous post........to "argument".......

1) Would suggest maybe you post something in JWO about the event ? ? ?

2) Maybe charge a small fee for expenses, if any ? ?

3) Post something inviting other "factory personnel" who may be on this site or Real Olds Power.com and worked in Lansing assembly from the late 60s to the late 70 s ? ?

Well #1 I am not sure if anyone has tried any articles in JWO about C.O.?
#2 I doubt if any charge by JWO since we are not selling a product or service for hire.
#3 If we get into Lansing, I have people like my Dad or my Uncle would be glad to speak! Dick Baker would also, I know of few others that I could call.

Pat

Hi Paul, a noble idea and it could be done, I have been at the show field many times on Friday evenings 5:00 PM, it's like a land rush for the vendors. Most of the vendors set up till it's dark! That translates into some vendors not making it till 10:00 PM. Brett and Scott to mention a few whom have made it to the previous gatherings.

I too maybe tied up if I take position with the homecoming staff. Yes, the meeting can be done with out me.

Trying to get my dad or uncle to come and do a meeting till midnight is probably out of the question! They would both have to travel another 40 mins. back to thier respective places. Dick Baker is only 10 minutes out and he would be a good choice, experimental engineer.
