No Nationals In Mass 2015!
No Nationals In Mass 2015!
Don't know if this has been talked about here yet, but EMOC has pulled out of hosting 2015.....that sucks! Was looking forward to it. Looks like it may be a while before I attend another meet. If cards fall right, maybe Ohio next year....
I received that email, too. Here's the actual text of the letter:
April 9, 2013
Mr. Jerry Wilson
President – Oldsmobile Club of America
12216 Ladue Woods Drive
Creve Coeur, MO 63141
To: The Oldsmobile Club of America Executive Board and Board of Directors
CC: OCA Chapters, OCA Members
From: Chuck Schiel and Ted Loranz – Eastern Massachusetts GMO Chapter
Subject: Withdrawal of GMO Chapter’s Proposal to Host the 2015 OCA National Meet
Dear President Wilson,
It is with a deep sense of regret that we must announce to you, to the Executive Board, and to the Board of Directors of the
Oldsmobile Club of America, that the Eastern Massachusetts GMO Chapter has made the decision to formally withdraw our
proposal to host the 2015 OCA National Meet in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
This decision is the result of a paper ballot vote by our local Chapter’s general membership – our membership voted
overwhelmingly (94% “For” and 6% “Against”) to approve a motion to withdraw the GMO’s proposal to host the 2015 National
Meet. This vote was preceded by a long period of discussion and debate within the GMO, and was not done hastily or without
forethought.
Many of our Chapter’s members have already devoted countless hours to the planning and execution of this event – and our
club has already invested $2,000 of our internal funds to reserve the venue for the Meet. I spite of this, our members have
decided it is in the best interests of our membership to withdraw our proposal. The main reason for this decision is the
unwillingness of our Chapter’s membership to sacrifice our time and effort to work with an OCA Board that remains fractured,
and with an OCA Treasurer that is obstructive and unwilling to work harmoniously with the other BOD members for the wellbeing
of the OCA’s general membership.
We want to make it very clear that this decision is in NO WAY a reflection of any dissatisfaction that our local Chapter has
toward President Wilson and his Administration – on the contrary, it is our feeling that the responsibility for this decision falls
directly upon those OCA Board members who have made it their sole mission to undermine and obstruct the current
Administration from carrying out their duties as the managers of our club. It is unfortunate that a few post-2010 election “sore
losers” have hijacked this fine organization. We encourage President Wilson and his Administration to continue their efforts to
bring this club together, and we ask those individuals whose only aim is to destroy this club to either begin to work for the
common good of the general membership, or step down and allow others who are more willing to do so replace you.
Sincerely,
Chuck Schiel

Eastern Massachusetts GMO Chapter

Appears that the masses(no pun intended)are starting to show their displeasure in the way things are being handle in the OCA glass tower. Yes, I am a member of OCA, but have refrained comment until now, since it appears that the board wants to keep it out of general memberships view.
Erik: Met you and your lovely Family at Sturbridge in 2010, as I recall. Delightful time, and pretty sure that the New England Club was paid all
the monies they were due...........by the current Treasurer. Any chance
y'all might make it to Springfield this year? Still remember your good lookin' VC by the Lake there, and us hollering from our Balcony at you. LOL!

I am a 31 year member of OCA and I cannot blame them one bit for pulling out. It is a sad situation but they made a decision that sends a clear message to the BOD. As a member of IVOC which is hosting this years nationals, I hope we don't have trouble recouping funds from OCA.
