Did I make a special find?
Did I make a special find?
Garage sale thing, you know. What intrigued me was the pad #.
It reads 33X113223. 455 engine. Here's a few pics.
Off to the hardware store for bolts for my stand.
Why is it you can never find them when you look a year later?

More specifically, the "X" refers to the Fairfax, KS assembly plant, which only built full size cars in 1973. This is a 1973 smog motor 455 out of either a D88 or a Ninety Eight.
1972 motor michigan what body style?

3 = Oldsmobile Division
2 = 1972 model year
M = Lansing, MI assembly plant
464222 = assembly sequence number
For the 1972 model year for Lansing-built cars, A-body sequence numbers started at 100001, full size started at 400001, and Toros started at 700001. That means that this motor came out of a 1972 full size.
NOTE: this is NOT the same every model year, nor is it the same for every assembly plant within a given year. In the case of the 1973 VIN derivative above from the Fairfax plant, we know the motor came from a full size without even looking at the sequence number because that's the only kind of Oldsmobile built at Fairfax that year. Since Lansing built all models in 1972, we have to fall back on the sequence number. In earlier years, sequence numbers for A-bodies and full size cars overlapped, so you can't tell.

Lol, I figured that out, the X was just the first thing that caught my eye.
