Did I make a special find?

Garage sale thing, you know. What intrigued me was the pad #.
It reads 33X113223. 455 engine. Here's a few pics.

Off to the hardware store for bolts for my stand.
Why is it you can never find them when you look a year later?

The first 3 means Oldsmobile, the second 3 is the year 1973. The X is where the car was assembled.

More specifically, the "X" refers to the Fairfax, KS assembly plant, which only built full size cars in 1973. This is a 1973 smog motor 455 out of either a D88 or a Ninety Eight.

3 = Oldsmobile Division
2 = 1972 model year
M = Lansing, MI assembly plant
464222 = assembly sequence number

For the 1972 model year for Lansing-built cars, A-body sequence numbers started at 100001, full size started at 400001, and Toros started at 700001. That means that this motor came out of a 1972 full size.

NOTE: this is NOT the same every model year, nor is it the same for every assembly plant within a given year. In the case of the 1973 VIN derivative above from the Fairfax plant, we know the motor came from a full size without even looking at the sequence number because that's the only kind of Oldsmobile built at Fairfax that year. Since Lansing built all models in 1972, we have to fall back on the sequence number. In earlier years, sequence numbers for A-bodies and full size cars overlapped, so you can't tell.

What part of two ex-wives was not clear?

You can see where my priorities are.

I parted out a 68 455 with the same X , mine was from a 1968 convertible delta. I parted it out because the block had several freeze cracks in it.
I was thinking I had a cool find too, but.....

The story I like to tell is that some years ago I was looking at a 1969 442 for sale. I pointed out that the motor was not original since the VIN derivative was 30X....... He was adamant that the "X" signified "experimental"...

The "X" in the fifth position of the VIN for the engine code in 1972 is completely unrelated to the "X" used in the seventh position to signify assembly plant and would not show up in the VIN derivative on a block anyway.

Lol, I figured that out, the X was just the first thing that caught my eye.
