December 7th
December 7th
Today is December 7th, a day that lives in infamy. It has been 82 years since the United States was attacked and most of those of the Greatest Generation are gone. Let's never forget this date and those brave souls that saved the world.

I have been fortunate to be able to visit the USS Arizona Memorial. I can honestly say it was the most moving Memorial I have ever visited.
As a second note, if you are ever in Hawaii, please go the the Arizona memorial. You will never see anything more emotional, especially if you are a veteran, better than the Vietnam war wall.
A friend and I went to the Arizona Memorial when our ship ported in Hawaii while in the Navy in 1979. It was extremely emotional, especially being at that stage in my life. I still remember what a Sunday morning inport situation was like at 8 am. Sailors were not required to get up at reveille as it was a day off. I imagine that many sailors were still in their bunk sleeping off the Saturday night when the attack happened. I get pissed thinking about it. Thanks for this thread Glenn.
I put mine out this morning. I try to remember every year.
I was surprised there was no mention of it on the morning news. Luckily I remembered on my own.
Makes you wonder how the US would react to such an attack today. We saw a lot of revived patriotism after 9/11 but even that seems to have disappeared.
Never, ever, forget what was done to us on our own soil. Never. Don't ignore or downplay it either. Our enemies won't.

Thanks for all the comments guys and thanks Jim for posting that wonderful video. It is good to see the Naval Academy Glee Club could actually say Amen.
Take a close look at the flag guys.

I have to be careful to not get political and get a thread deleted as I have a few times in the past. Wills30, you are fortunate to have been blessed with such distinguished family members. There are many threats to our country today.
I was able to visit the Memorial when I was in HS (over the summer) in '06..as moving as it was, I still regret not fully taking in the experience as a whole. Dad went on the audio tour while we waited for our ferry over to the Arizona Memorial and said it was extremely informative.
I try to make a point to make sure at least on Dec.7th every year to make sure people don't forget what happened on this day. Sadly, every year..less and less people seem to know/care. I know my generation and younger especially couldn't give two craps about history, but events like this should never be forgotten.

Never forget! And also thank Elvis for getting the memorial finished.
Never been to Hawaii. Do not underestimate the Vietnam war wall memorial. Found the name of my brother in law. Who was more of a brother. And the names of tens of thousands who were killed.
Do not underestimate Americans. 911 made us all one nation! As did WW2. I never saw New Yorker's come together like that! They may not remember the past. But mess with us, and we be coming for you! Like in WW2 and 911.
