1970 442 4 speed carb - 7040253

Hello all,

I picked this carb up off ebay today (pics are from seller) with a description:

"OEM OLDMOBILE QUADRJET 7040253 for 1970 Oldsmobile 442 455 4 speed. Date code is 0640 which translates to March, 1970. Came from a local estate and has been sitting on a shelf for a long time. All linkages move freely and I did not notice any damage. Should be gone over and will possibly need rebuilt before use. Please note this is untested and comes as seen in photos"

However my 442 has a build date of January, 1970. I was wondering if anyone would trade this carb for one with a date code in Jan that would be correct for my car. If yours is rebuilt or better / worse condition we can discuss a +cash deal.
If I can not find a trade I will use it since its the correct carb, however I was hoping to make my 442 more authentic and hopefully this can benefit someone else the same way.

Not looking to sell outright and no other parts willing to accept in lieu of another carb.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

According to this website quad number code , the date code is broken down by the first 3 numbers = the day of the year, and the last digit is the year- which should match the 4th digit on the main carb number, unless it was produced possibly very late the year before.

So if your date reads 1574, then its the 157th day of 1974, or June 6. Are your certain that is the correct date?

The date code on the one I have is listed above is 0640 which = the 64th day of 1970, or March 5 which jives with the info on the linked website.

The link above breaks down the entire code, both date and the 70... number.

So that's fucked..lol...

So my model date seems like a 70.
The date stamp 1974?.

I never paid attention to it,
Just was looking if I could help you out.

I'll post a picture latter.

Hopefully you read it wrong, or something is very fishy. Curious to see it.

Could be a replacement part made later for the GM parts system.
