Dash molding
You dont have to drill anything. Dont drill because you will create a problem. The barbs are designed to push through and secure the molding. The material is very thin and the pins push in with very little pressure. The only thing I would do is heat the molding with a heat gun so it is more pliable. I wouldn't even use glue.

Don't use glue, it will just make a mess. Did your pad have a molding on before? If so, just take the old pins out and insert the new strip with pins in their place. If you see glue on the pad, it is likely because someone tried to glue on a molding that was falling off.
Correct-ish. From the factory, the '70 molding is glued on and the later years use the plastic push pins. There is a service bulletin published in '70 (would need to double check on the exact date) that covers this and IIRC suggests using the clips. The NOS molding included a pack of the push pins in the box.
