Cutlass motor swap

Hey fellas im currently driving a 1990 cutlass cruiser station wagon and want to build a nice sleeper out of it. Id like to swap in an l67 3.8 and was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out or give me advice or any info on doing an engine swap in this car. Its not your typical car to hot rod so there isnt any info on it. Thanks

The 3.3 is a 90 degree Buick V6, just like the 3800SC. The problem is that when Buick changed from the Series I motors to the Series II motors, the bellhousing bolt pattern was changed from the traditional BOP pattern to the 60 deg Metric pattern. The transaxle needs to match the new motor and frankly I have no idea what would be the original trans in your car. You might be better off swapping the 3800SC and matching trans as a set, just to avoid any possible problems (and to ensure that the trans is strong enough for the new motor).

While I'm no fan of wrong-wheel-drive cars, this sounds like a cool project. I would suggest that you type L67 Engine Swap into Google, as there are several sites devoted to this.

Well i also thought about just swapping the top end of the l67( supercharger, intake, heads) onto the 3.3 block if that would work. That would be the easier way

The top end swap has also been discussed on those sites. It isn't clear that it's easier or a better way to go. Again, if your 3.3 is a Series I motor, you CAN'T do the top end swap because the heads are completely different on the Series II motors. Also, you'll need a custom program in the ECU since the one from the L67 won't be correct for the smaller motor. Also, you'll likely have to buy a donor car anyway to get all the parts you need to do this swap, so you'll have a complete L67 motor and trans.

Check out this web site. They are specifically into the car you listed.

My son is currently working on a turbo build for a 3.3 on that site. Perhaps someone there can provide some information to help.

Good luck!
