Cutlass bucket seat bolt patters 68, 69, 17
Guys, I am looking to reupholster my bucket seats in my 1969(68) project car (well, it's a project car now... :-)
I assumed that my car had the correct seats (either 68 or 69) but it looks like they're 1971 or 72 seats - or at least 71/72 vinyl covers.
My question is, are the seats all the same size (mounting bolt pattern, seat width, etc.) from 68-72?
And as a follow-up, if they're actually 71 or 72 seats, can I just use the correct vinyls?
Thanks for any advice.
Here's my current seats in their ratty splendor.
They obviously need to be recovered...

I think the frames and adjuster legs are the same for 68-72. You can change the vinyl, but you should change the underlying foam as well. The foam was cut differently year to year. There are a couple good threads on the process here on C.O. There is also a member who sells a kit for the rebuild. He sells both here and eBay.
(That's a sharp '69 in your signature!)

The frames are pretty much the same except for where the seat back locks go in. '68 seats have the back release on the side, '69 up have the square buttons on the plastic seat backs. They won't matter on the upholstery but as "back in the game" said you'll have to replace the foam also. If your're doing '68 or '69 style seat covers get them from Legendary!!! They're worth the extra money!!! The PUI covers for these years SUCK!!! The guy you want to get a hold of on this site is Ben,he goes by the name "RAMBO" He's awesome!! he's very helpful & he does sell nice kits for the seat padding that goes under the foam.

All 1966-1972 A/B/C/E body bucket seats are the same basic frames and springs. The 1966 seatbacks have no locks. The 1967-68 seatbacks have the side release button. The 1969-72 seatbacks have the center release button. The 66-67 frames have metal backs and bottom trim pieces. The 68-72 seats have plastic. Dimensionally they all interchange.
