That auction is starting to get serious, it’s over 16k now. And he never did post the message I sent him about authentication/documentation. Somebody, who probably has enough cash to absorb this fallacy, is going to pay. Who knows, maybe somebody actually thinks this car is sweet!

The cowl tags were attached with phillips-head screws in those years so at least that's correct!!! It's a shame someone took a nice loaded Salon & did that to it!! The thing has allot of nice options. I think the interior needs some barf bags though. Maybe I'll have to get my girlfriends '76 Salon back over here & trick it out like that...............

It was only intended to be a conversation piece.

funny story is I had the same thing happen to me two years ago when I sold a very nice 1970 cutlass supreme to a dealer who then claimed it to be a rare SX model when he advertised it.
Wait, used car salesmen aren't honest??? Next someone will try to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge, tell me real estate agents aren't really looking out for me. No one wins but lawyers when lawyers get involved. The media doesn't really tell the whole story. What's the world coming to.

Sorry Scott, couldn't help myself. Not a shot at you.

I like the interior but why the pace car, it never existed! They should have done it as a Hurst/Olds tribute instead. Good eye on the correct Phillips screws on the body tag.

If it is any consolation, the Vista that they crush(1971) is not the same one that he drives to the dealership(1970). If you watch closely you can definitely tell the difference.
Still hurts to watch but hopefully the other side of it was badly damaged & was beyond all hope of repair! At least that's how I sleep at night.

I have refrained from commenting on this for some time, but this morning when I clicked the link and saw 195 watchers and north of 20K I was shocked. All I can say is "Wow!" I wonder if there is any phantom bidding occurring here. What is the market for a loaded 403, '77 442 in perfect condition? I guess Joe's "a$$ for every seat" is correct.

This will shed some light on what the reserve may be. On Hemmings they are looking for $40k.

Lotsa luck with that. The VIN shows that the car was originally an R code 350 motor.

Just saw that myself yesterday afternoon, was just going to post it.

The following is a post off of Facebook:

Vaughn Scott is correct. This car was built by a friend of my brothers and it is just his own creation of what he wanted that they never made. My brother installed the drivetrain in the car which had a 350 in it to begin with. The 455 he installed was a built ka headed motor that I had. So the car ran great. The car was extremely nice to start with, no rust ever. The builder kinda went overboard on all the emblems and stickers that he could possibly find. He spared no expense on the build and everything that is done to the car is done well. The dealer is advertising the car as authentic but I just want to clear it up for everyone. Car was built in Louisville ky about 12 or 13 years ago. Very nice car but not what the dealer is claiming it to be. And no where worth what he is asking for it. Hope this helps clear things up.

Not that anyone here though the car was legit, but thanks for that information. One thing I did notice in the photos in the auction was that the builder added a 120 MPH speedo. Nice, subtle touch. Like it or not, you have to admire all the work put into that car.

Somewhere in the many posts there was also information that the speedo is out of a 76'. the 77' only went to 85 MPH if I'm quoting the post right.

I know this dealership, been there a couple of times in passing, not far from me.

they consign generally 'decent' cars but not 'great' ones, albeit typically still seeking prices well beyond real value levels. I have seen them misrepresent cars in the past, whether by design or lack of ability to determine a model is legitimately what they're representing it as -

they had a 71 or 2 Skylark convertible there a while back, cloned to GS trim but not the real deal. I told them it wasn't a real GS but they didn't really care and pretty much left it advertised as such. Car had some door fitment issues but nothing appearing too serious at first glance.

their photos are also excessively enhanced for color and contrast, to the point they many times actually hide pertinent cosmetic and panel fit details.

So this car continues to be relisted on eBay time and time again. The thing that gets me is how fast this car gets up to 20 grand. Since this car has been floating around for sale, I have seen many nice original 76 and 77 Cutlass’ go unsold for a lot less than that. Throw in the fact that the auction is private, and you have good old fashioned tom foolery and schill bidding going on here. I just hope no one on this forum falls for it and buys this abortion of an automobile. Thanks for letting me vent. We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks, it saved me from scrolling back through 68 posts. It certainly is a" creation". The spoiler came from a 2007 Monte Carlo ? Or was it just Oldsmobile's "futuristic" thinking ?

If the price wasn't insane and remove a few dozen decals, I still say it would be a nice unique car.
