Crankshaft Gear Install Tool

Crankshaft Gear Install Tool

Ok, where do I find/buy a crankshaft gear installation tool?

If your talking about the timing gear, it should be a very snug slip fit. Take some emery cloth and go around the crank until its smooth, then tap it on with a hammer and a short piece of pipe.

Thanks. It's my first time, gotta have a first for everything at some point. Yes, it's the timing gear on the my new Eagle crank. I was concerned about tapping it on, but I'll pull the key, clean up with emery cloth and then tap it on. Before I do though, I need to remember to put the crank spacer behind it since I'm installing a hydraulic roller and have the DMR camshaft thrust kit.

Just checked the Engine Service manual and sure enough, they show the crankshaft timing gear being tapped on.

Yeah, I was going to say that you can find the "tool" at your favorite hardware or plumbing supply store.

That looks a bit like a Chevy 6 cylinder.

I pulled that picture from the Olds service manual in the L-6 engine section.
