Convertible top

Was wondering if it hurts the convertible top if it is left down for a long period of time?

I left mine down for about 2 months over a summer and, when I put it back up, the top was wrinkled in several spots. I thought that maybe I had ruined it. But, after a couple of weeks, all the wrinkles left. Still though, I now put my top up when I'm done with my top down driving for the day. Those wrinkles kinda scared me!

I know someone that bought a convertible that had been sitting in storage atop railroad ties for a decade with the top down. It wasn't even close to being able to latch closed. It was an Austin Healey so yes this is a great opportunity for some of you in this crowd to throw rocks at Healey's.

When I had a new top put on a couple years ago the trim shop guy told me the top will shrink if left down even over night. He said when leaving the car you should put the top up and latch it to the header, every time.

X2
The top also helps keep out dust and dirt from your interior.

My top is a bi$#h to latch if the top is left down for any amount of time especially in cold weather. The wrinkles will come out in a short time if I some how manage to get the thing latched.....Tedd

I have 2 converitbles and rarely leave the top down when not driving due to the great points mentioned above, and also to avoid sun fading to the underside near the bow (if not covered with parade boot). I've seen the latter on several cars and it detracts from the inside when the top is fully up.
