Column to console conversion
Column to console conversion
I've switched my project 72 Vista Cruiser from column to console shift. Pretty much complete buy am trying to understand how the wiring harness for the console lights hook up to power. I was told that there should be a plug in behind the firewall insulation that would have been used in a factory console car and left unused in a column shift car. Can't find it. Any advice?
Thanks
Thanks
I couldn't find a harness in my column Supreme so I built one when I converted to a console.
I tapped off of the light circuit under the dash near the fuse panel. The line to the shift indicator is tied to the headlight circuit, the other, for the glove box/storage is connected to a constant hot so I always have light when I open the lid.
I thought about using a switched line to feed the box light, but I found that there were times I was digging in the console at night, and didn't have my keys on me.

Behind the clock/tach/clock blank is a female plug. You'll need an extension harness for a '71-'72 & a console harness for a '71-'72 The extension harness plugs into the existing dash harness & the console harness plugs into the extension harness. If the car has the optional courtesy light package, a harness will already be plugged into the dash harness. If so, the extension harness has a male & female end so you can get everything plugged in.
