Close call last night

So I'm at work last night and wife texts me about heavy winds at home. Few minutes later I get a photo

Yes that's a 10x 20 canopy we use to keep crap off car until we can afford a steel carport. I've used this canopy for 4 season now .

Car wasnt damaged at all, and canopy was put back up w better anchors today ...scary moment

I have used a steel carport for 13 years now for my Alero plus a car cover meant for outdoor use. Get the hurricane anchors for your steel port! I have them, so far handled 80mph winds.

My FIL had a canopy like that he held it down with concrete blocks.....he wasn’t so lucky, the wind picked it up and dragged a block across the hood

Put down heavy mil plastic under it too. Ground moisture is your enemy and will cling to the undercarriage especially in the lovely NY forever always damp conditions.

Hi,

A few years ago I had a similar experience, a old bed liner my wife uses to get mulch got taken and danced all over a Toyota Tacoma Pickup I have, missed the other 10 vehicles sitting nearby and dented almost every panel 5 grand worth of damage, thankfully I had comp insurance on it (act of God coverage) now I am semi-restoring a Tacoma.

Definitely invest in good anchors

Regards,

Thanks I added better anchors. Were gonna order a steel carport soon and have stone poured for a base . I'll lay thick mil plastic down too to resist ground moisture. Eventually itll get sides w tin and Olds can stay home all winter . My in laws are selling house wr store car in over the cold months

actually havent decided yet, I've been looking at a few different vendors . I'd like the heavier roof bracing for snow loading , and the vertical steel roof ribs so rain and debris doesnt collect on the horizontal ribs .

Glad your ride survived the blow. The close calls I have are the idiots that pull out in front me...these old gals don't stop like the new ones.
