A bad winter storm blew through Phoenix on Thursday night and took out the main tent(s) at the Russo & Steele auction. (just a few miles from Barrett Jackson's location) Many cars were damaged, but fortunately no loss of life. Officials closed the area until it was safe to re-enter. Many cars were exposed to the storm conditions since their owners could not have access.

Wow that really sucks. Seeing some of the rare and classic cars that were smashed up from the tent poles would be hard to see if you owned them. I hope they had insurance at least.

That has got to have some people really bummed out. I think I saw that black 71 w-30 conv. that was the subject of another post in the row of cars that didn't have tent pole damage. I guess thats what insurance is for.

That's horrible...
For the 'credit card restoration' crowd, its just more work for their restoration/custom shops. I feel really bad for the people who actually restored some of the cars themselves. The insurance might cover the dollars, but you can't get back the time that was spent ....

I wonder if you have to sign a waiver for the auction,so your insurance covers it ?

I can't say for sure but I would guess a waiver is signed releasing R & S from any responsibilty.
It's heresay but I've read elsewhere that Haggerty has said they insured 1/3 of the cars involved in this incident.
If I owned one of these high dollar beauties I would never let it be stored in a tent outside. Only a real covered building for for my investment.

There is a link @ Oldsgooglegroups showing the damaged cars, estimated that 600-700 of 800 were damaged. Just unfortunate.
