I found something quite a concerning today when I was working on my 64’ Oldsmobile 98 town sedan. I had opened up both valve covers and noticed that there were large metal fragments. I Dont know what of but nothing appears to be damaged. Any insight helps.
I think so too. Common 394 failure. Without them you might notice higher oil consumption but if you're reasonably mechanically inclined replacing them on the car is no biggie. You'll need a special spark plug hole air fitting and an air compressor. Shop book will detail removing the rocker arm shafts, valve springs and keepers with compressed air holding the valves closed.
Daresay finding the seals and new valve keepers (if needed) will be hardest part of the job.
