Checking Compression - 1970 442

When checking the compression on all 8 cylinders, is it best to remove all the spark plugs or one at a time when testing?

Is it better to just remove the coil wire or also the hose going in to the fuel pump as well?

Picked up a remote starter and looking forward to trying it but not sure if I'll have any issues using it on a stick car.

It’s best to remove all the plugs, the engine cranks faster, and the battery will last longer.

Definitely disable the ignition, and obviously make sure the trans isn’t in gear and the wheels are chocked. Using a remote starter switch will bypass the clutch/neutral safety switch.

Thanks, Matt.

X2 to the above and no to the question about disconnecting any fuel lines. If you really felt it necessary you could pinch the rubber supply hose to the fuel pump.

Red face

I usually charge up the battery and do one at a time because I'm just addle-minded enough to get the wires mixed up if I take them all off at once. If I have to do two sessions one bank each, oh well.

EDIT: If you do decide to take them all off at once, make sure you label them, and mark the corresponding spot on the distributor. The numbers on the intake should tell you what you need to know there ...

It's also a good idea to have another vehicle handy so you can put a set of jumper cables on your Oldsmobile.
