I have a 70 W30, have owned it for at least 25 years. Someone put a in line filter and rubber hose. Never changed it as long as I have owned it. Decided to change the filter, but then decided to change the line to a metal line. Rubber was bad, but the small rubber lines from frame to fuel pump, looked a little worn, took them off, as they were real bad. I don't drive the car much, and easy to just let things go, as I got older. I'm telling anyone with rubber lines like mine, keep a eye, on them, and maybe just change them non and then. Don't need a fire.
Old rubber lines are not ethanol resistant, rot from the inside out. Plus age is not good for rubber. Many people have had trouble with the factory rubber connections cracking due to age.
The ones on my car were hard as rock back in the 90s. I can't imagine what they would be like 30 years later. But even back then I don't think ethanol would affect them as they were so dang hard.
I need to do that, I still have one crispy hose on top of the tank. A bud send me some GM rubber, and I want to replace the clamps back to the colored pinch clamps where they have been changed out at the same time while I’m into this.
I actually just changed the front two rubber behind the A arms on mine..both fuel and return were hard as a rock..plan to do the two short ones off the gas tank this weekend..they aren’t original and still pliable but need changed anyway..
