Changing the Water Neck

Well, after returning home form a 4 year assignment, I knew some things would be wrong. I had a leak coming from the water neck.

I bought a new one and had some mechanic put it on about 2 months ago. It is now leaking again.

Now, I bought a third part, but from a different manufacturer (Spectre). I was wondering if there was any trick to putting this on, as this will be my first time. The part did come with a gasket.

Do I need to apply any special chemical/bond/sealant to hold the gasket in place, or do I simply bolt down the part onto the seal?

Thanks!

I use Fel-pro Q35130 water neck gasket with some permatex high tack. I also coat the bolts with a small amount of pipe joint compound. FYI, I've never had any luck in 40 years with the chrome water necks.

I've also heard the chrome water necks are a PITA. I would sand the gasket surface thouroughly, coat it in Permatex and adhere the gasket to the water neck. Then let it sit overnight before installing. Make sure you don't over torque it.

If you need a good thermostat housing with some bling...try this one.Good quality, not like the cheap china made chrome ones.
