Caught A Deer Today

On my way to drive my 1970 442 in one of the local Memorial Day Parades, a deer jumped in front of me and I caught it in the right corner of the car. The deer did a couple of flips, got to its legs and took off. I thought there would be fender damage from the way it sounded. Fortunately, everything looked ok so I continued on my way. This all happened within the city limits. When I got home I did find the damage - broken right grill , cracked headlight housing and the headllight bezel is dented. I'll be talking to Hagerty Insurance tomorrow.

Will you need a police report for Hagerty?

Good to hear you didn't have worse damage.

Let us know how Hagerty handles the claim. From other incidents I've heard, they are pretty ez to deal with.

I hope not because I don't have one. The deer hairs are still on the headlight and bezel. I hope that is proof enough. We will see...

If your deductible covers the damage, your spitting in the wind!
With no paint damage, sounds like a couple hundred bucks, at the most.
Price the parts, first!

I haven't yet figured out why insurance companies don't pressure state wildlife management bureaus to manage their damn wildlife. They pressure state legislatures to give them what they want, why not wildlife departments?

The part of Vajenya I live in has one of the highest deer populations per square mile in the country and we predictably pay out the nose for insurance because of it.

Bambi. Bah.

Had it been one of the new plastic
cars, could have been a total.
They just don't build 'em like they
used to. Good to see no one was
hurt. (With the exception of the 442.)
Let us know how it goes with Haggerty.

Deer are a menace. My auto insurance went up when I moved from metropolitian Balto/DC area to rural West Virginia, one of the reasons was the large deer incidents.
I have a hard time with any new trees and plants. I keep trying to get longer gun hunting seasons to no avail.

Ya. No kidding. Why the hell do they put those deer crossing signs on such busy streets / highways ? It would make more sense to have the deer cross in less populated areas....

I got my first this past winter...50+mph he came down a steep hill into the roadway I executed avoidance maneuvers and he did too....it was like a millisecond ballet weaving to and fro. I hit him square in the center of my truck, he went down spinning into the opposite lane and eventually into the snowbank, he couldnt get up. I slowed but my technology aversion doesnt allow me to carry a cell phone plus everyone else does so I just kept going on my way to work.

I expected a crunched fender, busted headlight and grill I was pleasantly surprised to find a only bent front license plate embedded w deer hair. My truck has a half metal, half plastic covered bumper and plow frame he apparently hit the metal part of the bumper and plowframe !!!
