Car part disposal

What's the best way to dispose of an old transmission and an old
AC Compressor? Will most recycle businesses accept these? I know
the case on the transmission is aluminum but it still has several quarts
of trans. fluid in it. I assume the compressor still has several pounds of
of R12 coolant in it. I would think there would be environmental issues.
Let me know what you think. Thanks.

If they are no good or non-rebuildable, easiest thing to do is take 'em to your local car salvage yard. They will recycle 'em with their other stuff.
If the parts are known good or known rebuildable, list 'em on craigslist or something for cheap or free.
If you are concerned about the tranny fluid, pull the pan and drain out what you can and take it to a place that takes old motor oil.
All the R12 most likely evaporated from the compressor as soon as the lines were opened up. (It is hard enough just to keep it in a sealed can! )
