Car Color Opinions - 68 442 Convert.
I know that everyone on this board have different opinions about the color that they painted their car(s) and the reasons why. How about for a 1968 442 convertible with "Light Blue" interior. The previous owner painted it a very non OEM dark blue.
What color convertible top and what color paint would you prefer?
The car came with Provencial White - White Top - Light Blue Interior. Stay with original??? Let me know your opinion. Thanks in advance!

I would never have thought about Lime Green... LOL, It looks awesome!!!!
I'm not brave enough to try that color combo! You've got a neutral colored interior (White), makes it easier to be creative. Without changing the Light Blue interior color, I think I'm locked into just a few combinations that I would find acceptible.
White or Black exterior
White or Black convertible top
How about Black exterior Black top with a Medium blue Fender stripe???

Hey esisson. Mine's Black, black and black. I always think that black is best, but that's just personal preference. However, with a light blue interior, I'd be going white with white. Maybe a black top, but definitely a white exterior. The interior really limits what you can do on the outside. I'd say that your only options would be white, or a mid to light blue. The "keep it original" argument is always a good one, but like Neg says, it's your car. On the other hand, you want people to say "wow" when they see your awesome Oldsmobile ride, and not "ooh, what an odd color combo".
Hope this helps. Cheers.

OverHaulin had a episode (Season 4) of the same car yours might be. The episode name was Episode 1: Mean Anemul
Here's a picture of what they did to the car. I think it looked great.

Since you have the light blue interior, i would opt for the white top and a medium-light blue paint. Personally I really like the "carribean blue" that was used in the early 70's. I cannot remember the exact name of that color, but I love it... It is a little darker than the color of this smiley:
I am not sure if it was offered in 68 though...
Neg, I do have to say that your "Key Lime" paint combo does look awesome!
Now for some homemade Key Lime pie!

I think the original colors sound really sharp, don't see many white on white with the light blue interior. My second choice would be Olds Nordic blue poly, (light ice blue with a slight metallic), I think all the GM divisions had some version of it. Maybe that's the color you're thinking of Rob? My Vista was and will be that so I'm a litle biased.

esisson, I personally think original colors are a really cool color combination, especially for a convertible. It'd definitely be more rare than most stock colors. I too, like to keep things numbers matching. If you wanted to add a bit of color, you could always add the W36 Rally Stripe option, which for a provincial white car could either be red or black.
I think a white car with the Blue Top (Code 4) would look pretty sharp with the light blue interior and white body. Also, this way, it wouldn't be all white.
Just some ideas if you want to keep it mostly stock.

I'm in the same situation with my F85. It has the light blue interior. I think the only choices we have are white, silver/grey or a shade of blue. I'm leaning towards viking blue so it will match my '72 convertible. Its your car do as you wish. JKaz

dan1s, I like what they did with the 442 on Overhaulin. It's much more of a Custom look that I would want on mine. I think most people think the original white paint / white top would look best. I might change things up a little and go with a blue stipe on the fender instead of black or red! Thanks a lot for sharing your opinions tonight. You guys are great.

Thanks for rebooting my stuck mind!
