cadminum brake booster???
I'm think about replaceing my tired brake booster master cylinder with a repo cadmium plated one. Anyone have any suggestions for the best one? Where? Pricing?
Or all they all made by the same folks?

I need one soon also, but that term 'repro' has me cringing...
I am thinking of sending mine off for a rebuild and replate, unless someone had very recent good experience with the repros.
I cannot even get a set of working repro'ed keys! One key from one lot fit, another key from another lot ordered later did not. Geez...

They aren't bad at all, doesn't look chinesium, pretty nice actually.
I have a replated and rebuilt one on my GTO and it doesn't look any different than the repo on the Olds. The Delco-Remy stamp on the front is the thing. some repos don't have it, others have it upside down, could be the deal where you can't make it exactly the same unless it's GM licensed. Seems like some originals had the stamp upside down too though? I think only disc brakes used the cad plated booster, reason I did Sandy's in zinc oxide. Teepo has got's a lot but she don't got disc.

Send your original to Steve at http://www.brakeboosters.com/.
He will rebuild and replate your original brake booster and replate your original master cylinder cover for $145.00.
The Delco stamp on most original brake boosters are stamped upside down. Original brake bosters are date coded and partial p/n stamped on the top retaining tab.

My luck with repro parts has been sinking quickly, lately...

That's why I started this thread.

i just installed one of these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-...Q5fAccessories
it worked out great. i did not even have to adjust it. i got the one without the delco stamp because it is $40 more for the same thing with the delco stamp.

I just installed a power booster on my car from the Right Stuff.
I opted for the $109 version without the stamp since from the factory some cars had a stamp and some didn't.The ones that did have the stamp, were found in different locations. $149 with the stamp.
Ordered by credit card over the phone and it arrived to my doorstep 25 hours later.
Before I bought this one I casually looked around to have my original replated and rebuilt and found a couple prices of close to $500.
This fellow that does it for $145 just might end up rebuilding my original so I can put it back on.Gonna contact him. Thanks for the info.

Ok not to derail the thread but the wife needs a booster for her 79 Cutlass Cruiser and the Right stuff has 5 different ones listed. So which one do we need? They have a 7 inch dual, 8 inch dual, 9 inch slimline, 9 inch delco, and 11 inch Delco listed.

What diameter is the one in the car in need? That should help narrow it down a bit.
What engine is in it? I assume not a diesel...
I think the duals were used in heavy duty vehicles - they had two internal diaphrams. They are easier to identify, as they are about twice the thickness of a single.
Post a picture if in doubt...

I've actually entered 3 car shows and have gotten lots of compliments on my engine compartment.
Keep working on yours one piece at a time and sooner or later you'll have been thru everything.
thank you

Not all boosters had the "Delco" stamp. The repros I've seen had pretty thin plating...better to have an original redone by Steve at
http://www.brakeboosters.com/products.htm, he charges 145, and I think that includes shipping.

I guess i will stick with my first statemet that started the thread..,,the boosters had a silver cad? coating, just like the coating on the relay covers....saw one in a magazine, saw two survivor boosters today at Olds show and they are silver...not gold..maybe they cand plate in old coating.....maybe both are correct in the day... but when was the time you saw an old gold booster ..Who replates in the silver Cad.. if that is what it is called...

I bought a repro from Inline Tube w/o the stamp because my original had no stamp- cost was $100 (and cheaper than the one that has the stamp). I am not sure how the plating holds up long term, but it looks nice - yellow cad. It came in a box with all kinds of stickers that said Made in USA, so that made me happy.
