Bravada? To be or not to be.

Bravada? To be or not to be.
So I'm considering getting a bigger car like a truck so why not consider the Oldsmobile Bravada, whats your guys take on it first, second and third generations.
I plan on having a kid soon so safety is also an issue.
And a engine swap friendly platform is a big plus.

From a parts availability standpoint, I would suggest looking into the 2003/2004 model ... Many (if not all) mechanical parts have a commonality with the Trail Blazers, therefore should be reasonably available, even though the vehicle is over 12 years old...

I own two Bravadas. My 02 I've driven daily for almost three years. I picked up my 03 last August and then another 03 for parts.
Here's my take on these trucks. I like them because I can buy them for $500. Why so cheap? At thirteen to fifteen years old, a lot of them are breaking their transmissions and awd systems. Also if the previous owner hasn't kept up on fluid changes, it's very likely to have expensive engine problems too.
Then why do I still like them?
I've learned to fix them, they drive out very nice and I get to drive an Oldsmobile every day. ~BOB.

One of my friends owned a 2001 Chevy Blazer that blew a head gasket and was nothing but problems. Another friend owned a 1998 Chevy Astro that had well over 200k miles on it when he got in a wreck. They both had the 4.3L v6. It's a great engine if maintained properly. IMHO, the only late model GM engine that might have it beat for durability is the 3.8L v6. Let us know if you find a good one.

Thanks Guys I have been giving it some thought and I have been looking at silverados/sierras ext cabs from 2000-03 also. The newest Bravada or a truck. I don't know still, but I should in a week. Thanks again

I have the 2002 Bravada and I dont have a problem with it since 2005. All you have to do is keep up with the preventive maintenance. It's in the owners manual that tells you what to do in certain mileage. Its a part time 4 wheel drive. When it slips it grips.

I have an 02 and 03 Bravada. The four wheel drive does not work on either one, but who cares. I like the one with the sun roof and the other with the DVD player is useless as you zoom down the road. I removed the air bags from both because I am cheap and compressors are not. Springs from a Trail Blazer keep the rear from dragging on the ground (eighty bucks at the recycle mall). One has 321 K km and the other has about 210 K. I am happy with both but they do use a lot of fuel.
