is the molding that runs down the side of the car the same for 70 thru 72 cutlass s

Even though you did not end with a question mark, it was pretty clear to me you were asking a question. I know the 72 is different and I am pretty sure the 70 and 71 are different.

I wasn't being smart, the way I read it was: Body side moulding is the molding that runs down the side of the car the same for 70 thru 72 cutlass s

If you pick up parts books from various suppliers, you can usually find the years where different applications are correct.
These books will usually tell you what goes with what year.
