Bad th350 kickdown cable ?

I have a 1972 cutlass with a th350 transmission and I can't seem to be able to adjust the kickdown cable.. I think I'm missing the part that goes on the cable that is adjustable.. here are some pictures of my cable.. is the part that is missing on my cable replaceable? if it's not does some one have a correct picture of one that is not installed on the car they can lay out and take a picture of.. I want to go to the junkyard and see if I can find one.. if I don't find one I may have to post that I need one in the wanted section

Your cable looks OK. Why do you think you need to adjust it?

70cutty, some times I felt that my kickdown cable was not working right so I took a look at mine and I did a little research to see if it has any kind of adjustment and I guess it need mine is missing the piece the suppose to be self adjustable, as you can see in my pictures where it connets to my accelerator my cable end is just sitting there lose

Yes, it looks lie your missing the tube. There may be a less expensive source for it. Hell OPGI was $99, perhaps someone has a clip.

Detent cable

Do yourself a favor, If you have to get a new one get the GM one. I purchased the cheaper one and installed it, The trans did not shift right and if it stays applied you could smoke the trans. I replaced it with the GM one from the Parts place and all is good!

The GM one worked well for me, the aftermarket one is to short. And also I noticed that with the exhaust system so close to the plastic mounting flange it gets soft from the heat. It also kept the valve open and this could ruin your tranny! Mike.

sleeve missing

I see why u have no down shift the rubber sleeve that goes over the boss at the accelerator end of the cable is missing. there is a rubber hose (sleeve) that slides over the ball at the end of the cable. it is like a stiff rubber hose that slides over the ball and when the throttle is pushed to the floor for the first time it positions the sleeve over the ball which pulls the cable tight on the down shift valve. try putting a vacuum hose over the ball, cut it about 2 inches long the hose should fit tight on the ball so as to it will stay in place. I have repaired cables this way in the pass.

I bought mine from year one it was $97 shipped. That was pretty much the best price I could find for something that listed the correct year range (68-72). In the process of putting it in...
