Attaching Chrome Trim 65 Cutlass Convertible

Rusted out upper trim clip
I am getting to the point where I will start putting the chrome bits back on my car. Since these were all taken off when I acquired the car I didn't have the opportunity to see how it was attached and what was used to seal to holes from water infiltration. I have the wide lower chrome that uses posts and thread cutting nuts to attach it as well as the narrow 1/2 inch chrome trim just under the beltline trim. This uses hidden fasteners (see attached picture) but I can not find these in OPGI's catalog. I did find something in clipsandfasteners.com (item A12962) that looks like it would work but I still have the water concern. Finally there is the chrome trim around the convertible top opening, there were the remains of some kind of cloth under the clips (I found replacement clips for 65). I was wondering what the purpose of this cloth strip was, just to protect the paint from the clips?

I would appreciate any advice on the best ways to install the trim so that it stays put and I don't have water issues. Thanks
