Anyone use "Tom's Key Company" top get and program a spare key?
My Granddaughter has a 2013 Jeep Compass and when they bought the car, it only came with one key. If you go to a dealer, they want an arm and a leg to cut and program a new one using the original key and the car. Tom's Key Company will sell you a key, cut the new key using photos of the front and the back of the original and send it to you with a device that plugs into your OBD port on the car and after a few steps, you have a second key that works, You can also program up to six other keys for the same car only.
Just curious if there are any experiences with them?

Never heard of this but I like the idea. At my shop we have scan tool that will program the new key. The device they give you must be a one time use ??. DO I dare ask what they charge you to do this..
I had a replacement key made for a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica made at Ace Hardware, and a replacement key for a 2017 Ford F250 made at Batteries Plus. Both are national companies so you could check them for prices too. Both places sold the blank, programmed it and ensured that it worked in the vehicle before getting paid.
x2 on the Batteries Plus. The ford dealer wanted over $300 for a new key for my 2014 Ford F-150, while Batteries Plus charged me $165. No cosmetic difference other than a missing blue oval Ford sticker on the key which I can get on E-Bay. If I even want to.
Sounds like Batteries Plus is the way to go. Either that or a local Ace Hardware. If this Tom's Key Company has good reviews and you can pay with a credit card it might be worth it if they're that much cheaper.
