Anyone see this

Seems like 100k is a bit much. Maybe I'm too picky but the left front bumper bothers me.

I think for that kind of money the car should be correct. the bottom of the floor pans are body color and painted over undercoating in spots, the bottom of the rear quarters is rough, in several places there are bolts painted over that would have been installed after the car was painted, etc, etc. it is a nice car but if you are going to go into all the detail of the painstaking restoration then it should look like it is sitting at the dealership in 1971.

25k seems like a lot of money to me when you can go buy a brand new Mustang V6 convertible for around the same price that will blow the doors off that car but........ the prices of W30 convertibles are sky rocketing, that seems like a fair price to me, we can pick at these cars all day, there are only so many of them left.

that would be my point. all cars have flaws but when you talk about all the work done in a frame off resto then it should be correct and present that way. this is a nice car but there are a lot of flaws for a car that is supposed to be near perfect according to the seller.

Maybe if us Oldsmobile geeks didn't waste so much of our lives learning every little thing about these cars, we'd have less to gripe about. I wouldn't mind being a little more ignorant & having 100k to throw at a car. :0

There is way, way more things wrong with this car then was mentioned previously. I.E. check out the side strips at the fender/qtr. lips where the strip then goes horizontal. The upper edge of the bottom strip should curve and the thinner upper strip lower side should curve the same. Typical body shop/Restoration shop who does ch**y, GTO s , and f**ds.

Just to mention a few more, no blue emission or air pressure labels at the drivers door, no gas tank tar paper insulation mat above tank, jack stowage and posi labels in wrong place, and air cleaner appears to have wrong style/size label. And the list goes on. Not worth $100,000!

It also looks like it got the "famous In-line Tube sticker treatment" !

This is exactly why I threw this topic out there. Although I still think 100k is too much to pay for this car, for that kind of money I would expect a blue chip collectable. Also makes me wonder if it really sold for that price. Anyone who would pay 100k for a car should know what they are paying for.

Another nit-pick, but it's major. That rear end wasn't used in a W30.

No, but you COULD get the cover in 71, as this 1 has. No alum. center section.

I've never seen that vertical fuel filter arrangement except on Chevys. Is that correct?

Actually I wasn't referring to the cover, I know it was a dealer installed and over the counter option. The 3.23 ratio wasn't used in W30's.

SS is correct for 3:23 gears in a 71 W-30. TM is the 3:42 gear and TO is the 3:73 gear. The SS is not a W-30 exclusive code, the TM and TO are.

From 71 inspectors guide:

"C60 (A/C) is available with W30 option with M40 (auto) trans, power disc brakes and 3:23 axle."

Anyone notice the drivers side inside door handle pointing down?

I always like this color combo. A "little old lady" in town had a 71 Supreme hardtop in this color combo when I was in high school. I guess she eventually died. I seen it several years later and someone had bought the car and drove it into the ground. I still tried to buy with no luck. Have not seen the car in a few years now.

Dave B,

Are the 71's suppose to have insulation above the gas tank? I thought I had read that after 70 they quit putting the pads on. Seems like it was in a thread by 70Post. The 70 assembly manual shows the pad, the 71 does not....but you were there then.

I would rather buy 4 $20,000 Oldsmobiles instead of 1 $80,000 cutlass with a front bumper that's 2 inches off.

i will start with saying that it is a beautiful car and color combo! yes there are many things wrong/incorrect but i think we get a little biased{sp}/spoiled when we look at some of the "correct" restorations going on here. example lee pears 70 vert w-30. heck that sweetheart went 220,000 + and did not make reserve if i remember right. 80,000 seems kinda high to me on the car but if it is 1 of 110 that is ultra rare numbers. heck i would love to own and cruise it as its a driver quality car. but like most here i cannot afford to spend 80,000 on a car to cruise weekends.
