Anyone near Pleasanton, CA.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I'm looking for someone in the Pleasanton, CA area to evaluate a car for me. It is at Specialty Sales Classics. Anyone with any experience with this dealer? If so please share.

I sold a 70 Vette there years ago. They were good to deal with. I know it has different owners now then when I used them. Haven't been there in awhile. but I have not heard any bad things about them.

One more thing, not sure if it is a state law, or what they do. But I also used a different seller also, and they both do a complete safety check on the cars, so if they does not pass they will not sell it, so no cars sold as is.

So Harv, as a person who has consigned with them, are they willing to allow communication directly with the owner? My experience with consigners is that they don't want a potential buyer to speak to the owner or them spend any time on the car, such as verifying numbers matching or not. They just want to roll it out the door. One has to assume that it is not matching. Why would they pass up a 20% increase in value?

Is it my imagination, or is the driver's door a different color than the front fender? Also, the gas gauge reads awfully full -- sending unit or gauge? And I always get a little antsy when they won't show you any pictures of the undercarriage. Other than those things and the crease in the front of the passenger-side quarter, it looks nice. I suppose given the current state of the market $18K isn't a horrible price.

We'll be passing through there in mid to late January and I would be happy to stop and take a look (and maybe take a few snaps underneath), but hopefully you'll find somebody closer by to help you out before that.

Yes. I also think the door is a different color and had also noticed the fuel gauge. Would like to know what damage is hiding under that different color paint on the drivers door. The pass quarter is the biggest issue for me. it is in the area where you cannot get to it from the backside due to the outer wheel house. I hate stud guns. They always stretch the hell out of metal that is already stretched.

I thank you for the offer to stop and look for me. If I haven't had it looked at by then, I'll get a hold of you. Happy Holidays!

Yes, they don't want you talking to the seller. afraid you will work a deal, and they will not get any money. You can ask questions, and get some answers, I think I was asked to answer some. Also you can make offers, I came down, and when they say I was wanting to much, I also told them they were trying to make to much money also. I said I will come down some, but they also needed to come down also. One nice thing about selling a car with them is not dealing with the owner, and wondering how he was going to pay you, no worry if you are getting scammed. Also in Cal you need to have a bill of sale, and most buyers want you to make a false bill, to save them money on the tax. I will not do that, got in trouble once about that, and no more.

Yeah, I hear ya about the sales tax. As much as I think we're being ripped off by the gov collecting sales tax on the same car over and over again, I still won't mess with that. Not worth the consequences in my book. I won't ask anyone or do it for anyone.

Well thank you Harv. Good information.

69 Oldsguy. My son lives in Pleasanton. We take care of our grandkids in the afternoon. I will try to go take a look at this car.I don't like being the guy to tell someone to either buy or not buy, but can give you some heads up, good or bad, if you want?

Harv, I feel bad now. I had a lengthy discussion with the wife last night. I have not bought a car in over twenty years and at the price point of that car I did not expect the opposition I encountered last night. So I'm going to let it go in favor of harmony in the household. I thank you and 69442ragtop for coming to my aid. I hope someone from here will snag it. It looks to be a very solid car that will make someone a great car. Thanks again.

That's a shame. It looks like a nice car with lots of potential.

Maybe you can work on her a little?
