I remember reading about these. Don't recall how many were made, but the chances this guy actually has one are not good.

$50. That's cheap.

Maybe I'll buy it.

Funny he didn't post an actual photo of it, though, don't you think?

I'd say scam. If a guy has it,CL isn't the place to advertise it.

Yes please. W-43? Experimental engine I believe.
Pics from Hot Rod Mag from July of 69. These are what Olds had at that time.
I thought the engine on Craig's was set for production, and the rumors or folklore of a 442 running around late at night in Lansing that supposedly may
have had this engine in it, or one like it...

He's not saying $50 will buy it, but that he's open to serious offers....... would sure want to actually lay eyes on it first...... I believe the ad is from southern Nevada?

If it's and but's were candy and nuts...

If it is one, someone snuck it out the back. I smell scam.
If it is one of the 2 as he states, I wonder if he would trade it
for a 66 442 vert? If it is what he says in the pic shown... worth way more than my car for damn sure. IF someone could see it in person...

No, the price clearly says $50.

If you are implying that he might be posting it with a fraudulent price, then he is in violation of the Craiglist rules.

Could be a scam but you never know unless you follow up on it. For serious cash offers he would have to pony up real photos before I would get in a car to go see it 4 or 5 hours away.
I am on it

How many times have we heard about an ad that no one followed up on and then you hear about the great score someone made?

Here is the post. For those of you who think it was missed priced please read the entire post. The $50 was just a number not the real price. Never got a return call

So here is what I learned after a phone call from the guy who posted it. The engine was in the back of a car he bought about 8 or 9 weeks ago in Prescott Arizona which I find had to believe since I live close to there and have not heard anything about the car he bought nor the engine. I was also told the Petersen Auto Museum bought it for $50K, yes $50K which is not unreasonable for something this rare. The other motor that was mentioned in this thread was sold in the last few years but not complete as mentioned but non the less a pretty cool piece.

Thanks for the follow up Fred. Good story if Peterson's purchase
is for posterity for the W-43 Hemi, nice.

However, some new school engineers with there're laser cads looking over
and blueprinting, then a moneyman to build some... Could you imagine?
Too cool.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't this engine supposedly a 4 bolt main
4 valve per cylinder unit, double overhead cam or some such contraption?

For what it's worth, I just spoke with someone at the Petersen. He basically said, "Unless the executive director purchased it within the past 24 hours, that's news to me!"

Not the final word, but I have my doubts that the seller was telling the truth.

Olds had A few experimental engines, the one you mention and a single cam engine that's more similar to a standard big block

Toss in a SMW 403 and the "Golden Rocket" engine...
Maybe a 7028253 carb on that

I hear there's a guy around here selling one of those.

Think I'll go have a look.

Hope my camera doesn't jam the way it did the last time I saw Bigfoot...
