The part does not belong to me so I do not want to post pictures. There are date codded rare alternators that often have crack damage.. I was just wondering if anyone has successfully restored one that had cracks.
This would be a good question for the Tig Time Show..

If I’m a professional welder, and you present your question without a visual, how could you possibly expect me to give an educated answer?

Cast aluminum alternator housings can be TIG welded and blended to a point of invisibility if the damage is not too extensive.

The problem isn't the welding. The problem is how much the case distorts either from the original crack or from the welding.

Easy peasy....been there, done that (a number of times) and got the T-sirt.

Check your PM box.

Hey Bernhard, how are you enjoying the Vintage Wheels I helped coordinate the shipping for you from Texas 5 years ago?
By the way, I know a local guy that restores alternator

Thanks again for coordinating the shipping. I'm enjoying the Cragar SS rims, and have been looking into sending them on a road trip to one of the wheel restorer in the US. The 69 442 alternator is rare, and most of the ones I have found in my price range are cracked. So before I buy an expensive paper weight. I want to make sure that I can restore it. It would not be the first time I bought an expensive paper weight..

Ken Bruno saved my original alt on my 65. Ear was broke off. It’s not hard to fix these alternators. Not cheap either.
