Alternator bolt question

Hey there,

It appears im missing a bolt, nut, washer, and possibly a spacer on the bottom side of the alternator. Do you guys know is anyone makes a kit for these? Can you make any recommendations on parts?

This is mounted on a 400 big block, originally on a 350.

Thanks for the help!

Inline tube sells a kit for this, I think.

Isn’t that just a 5/16 bolt? And if I remember correctly, the lower alternator bracket is different between the small block and big block engines.

I checked inline tube. kit is sold out. looks like a thick washer, a lock washer, and a bolt. . Ill look into a 5/16 bolt for sure. I saved some pics from this website from a member posting diagrams of this. it looks like a bolt, washer and perhaps a spacer of some sort.

Im also going to check and see if the lower bracket isnt mounted correctly or can be moved.

There shouldn't be a gap b/n the lower hole in the alt case and the alt bracket. No "spacer" was used by the factory....didn't need it. They used the 5/16 bolt, a lock washer and a sort of "special" flat washer......one that is thicker than usual. Have yet to find a correct/accurate flat washer from the aftermarket. A "standard" thickness flat washer will distort a lot when the 5/16 bolt is tightened down.....even the original thicker flat washers I have, in some cases, show some signs of distortion as well. Must have been cranked down really hard.

Not sure how thick the flat washer in the out-of-stock Inline Tube kit is....maybe it's thicker.

I learned there are Grade 8 washers that are thicker / stronger than "regular" washers. They do not bend and deflect like the regular ones. The local hardware store had them in their nut and bolt section.

Since this is a 67 400 with brackets of a 72 350 perhaps things didnt transfer over exactly as expected for the engine builder back in the day. alternator belt is in line with pulleys as well as ac and power steering pump. not sure what happened. I just found a small brown bag of bolts in the glove box and some the hardware in their looks like the alternator bolt as well as some other bolts and nuts some of which could be for the ac bracket that i was also missing a bolt and nut for.

When i detail the engine I'll take a closer look. I just got it running after sitting for 35+ years. Thanks all for the info!
